Deadlift Question for those who do them?
Romanian Deadlift Stiffed Leg Deadlift Conventional Deadlift
On the one day of week for legs, are all 3 necessary; or just pick one type of deadlift for that week. Also, how many sets/reps would be enough? I'm weaning off the Smith Machine so I can incorporate these instead, so I guess Ill start out light; maybe a 40 pounder. Just dont know if I should do 2 sets of 10 or 3 sets of 8???
Does it matter?

Re: Deadlift Question for those who do them?
I would do just one. start out doing just 3 sets of 10, then the following week go heavier, doing 5 sets of 5, but make sure your form is perfect. do not round your back at all! 40 lbs may be too light depending on your form and strength. see if it is too light first, if so, increase your weight.
every two weeks, switch out they pe of deadlift you are doing.
you can also deadlift as a back exercise. stiff legged(slightly bent knees) are great for lower back.

Re: Deadlift Question for those who do them?
Thanks! I did them today at 50 lb (3 sets of 10).........and I could probably do a little heavier than that but I didnt want to take my chances.
I tried to do the deadlift w/out bending the knees and of course I killed my hamstrings. I keep stretching them so they wont be so bad tomorrow.
After doing them, Im most likely going to do just the regular ones that target my glutes. All these years wasting time on the other machines.......... I should've incorporated deadlifts a long time ago.

You need to bend your knees! Do not lock your knees.

Your legs will be almost straight, but don't lock your knees out. Your back should be flat like snowboardgirl said. You may not be able to go down all the way, but that's ok. The deadlift will help to not only strengthen your hamstrings, but stretch them too. I'm pretty stiff, but they have helped me to become more flexible.
