Dealing With Lewy Body Dementia
My father has Lewy Body Dementia. It is a rare dementia that is very hard to deal with for more information go to INformation on lewy body dementia
He is 79 now and has had a great life of memories. He is wheelchair permenetly. He is getting worse everyday and its killing my mother. She would never put him in a nursing home and she does everything for him. He can't eat for himself or use the bathroom. She has a nurse come in Mon., Wed, Fri for an hour. I don't think its enough help for her. She is trying to get another nurse in for 4 hours two days a week. I moved in with her for now until the baby is born to help, but I don't think of much help. My father has fallen numerous times out of the wheelchair. I have no clue what to do anymore. He is not my father just a shell. It hurts seeing him like this. He also is to the point where he is talking to his mother and father who past about 15 years ago. He thinks he is in the war and back on Long Island. I think a trip to NY might do him good. I just am very fusterated seeing him like this and my son gets SO confused about it all.
OK I had to vent and if anyone knows anything about this disease please let me know any information on it will help!!  
****UPDATE****
My mom took him off the newest medication that he has been on. He was getting to violent and was totaly in his own world, he didn't even know my mom. I was sitting with him and he just freaked out and its getting worse. My mom and dad have medicare but not sure what plan and my dad goes to the VA clinic here. He also uses thickener in his drinks now. We ar trying also to get him in a adult day care. Thank you all for your concerns!!!

I don't have any experience with this disease but I do with dementia. My grandpa just died this past fall and it was heartwrenching. Honestly I think getting a nurse in for more hours will help your mom. That really helped my grandma to cope. Do they have long term care insurance?

I know exactly what you are going through-My dad had this disease..It is very sad to watch a loved one go through this. My mom also did everything for him as well but towards the end it just got too much and we had to put him in a nursing home. We were there all the time but it was the best for him.

they live in Saint Augustine, FL. I am currently staying with them to help out, and my son is with me. I won't be able to help out much longer b/c I am pregnant and the baby is due May 29th. Its been so hard on all of us seeing my father this way

Dementia is such a hard thing to deal with, you and your mom are doing so much for him, he is very blessed to have family like you.

I have been working hard helping my mother threw all this. Now my father is refusing to eat at t8imes...well most of the time and he no longer is helping us move him with his legs he is not doing good at all. Please pray for us I want him to be around at least for the babys birth in May!!

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. LBD is so rare and just horrible to deal with (as is any type of dementia).
