Re: Dear Broadway Stagehands and theatre ownwers...

Yeah, it ***** that they can't come to an agreement.

How about getting your refund and buying tickets to one of the open (non-profit) Broadway shows, or something Off Broadway?

I recently saw AltarBoyz and I have never laughed so hard in my life!

Also EVERYTHING the Roundabout does is good and they are still running. A few weeks ago we saw The Ritz and I would love to see Pygmalion!

DH's credit card will get credited so I am going to mention AltarBoyz to him...

Actually I just thought of suggesting to DH that we use the refund to get tickets to the Big Apple Circus...DH has been wanting to take DS there...

See something Off or Off Off Broadway!

I've done Off Off Shows with Broadway actors including Drama Desk Winners and people from Tony winning productions.

They may be lower budget, but there is some GREAT stuff out there!!!!!! Being Off or Off Off broadway often allows for more creativity and innovation. You won'y see a show with 10 moving sets, but you will see a lot of talent. or go see something on Broadway being done by the Roundabout. They are WONDERFUL!

Rose Perez is in The Ritz right now!

We typically don't go to Broadway shows and there was a very specific reason we chose the show we did. So seeing something else, just wasn't an option for us. We ended up doing the 3 hour circle line cruise instead and had a great time! We've both lived in NY our entire lives and have never done this.

I was at a conferece in NYC over the weekend, and there wer people from all ove r the country & Canada, who intended to see shows since they were here anyway, and many of the got tickets to alternative shows before they came, or through TKTS when they got here.

They seeemd to enjoy the spontanaiity of it & I didn't hear any complaints. And I heard good things about Putnam County Spelling Bee ( which is open.)

I'm sure that those striking don't want to strike anymore then theatre goers don't want them to strike. Keep in mind, while you don't get to see a show, they don't get a paycheck and it may be very hard for some of those families. Chat Icon

totally agree!

I am sure many of those striking have "ruined" holidays also, because they are not getting a paycheck.

ITA with the 2 previous posters. I mean, REALLY...... as someone who has walked a picket line- those stagehands would rather be back at work earning a paycheck.

Agreed. And not only are the stagehands not getting a paycheck, but neither are the other people who work on the show - including costume/wardrobe people, ticket takers, musicians and many, many others.

Re: Dear Broadway Stagehands and theatre ownwers...

The people working on the shows are getting strike pay from their respective unions.

but EVERYONE would rather have the shows running than have the strike go on forever, but sometimes it has to happen.

I believe it's minimal... Similar to what you get paid for jury duty.

I've not heard that before. How much are they actually getting? In my union if you strike, you lose all pay.

ITA. I feel badly that they have been working without a contract.
