I've given my DS a plethora of bizarre things when we are out and about. It isn't a common thing, but it happens.

Re: Dear Mom in the mall..

IMO mall fries are way too salty and greasy to be giving a 6 mos old. Not sure about the vitamin water since even I have never had it.

But I guess to each their own. I am sure the child will survive

Yeah, that is totally wrong, I'm a healthcare practitioner.

Only a few flavors of vitamin water have natural caffeine in them and even those are NO WHERE near as high as the amout of caffeine in red bull!

That being said, it is probably not best to be giving a youd child vitamin water because it contains high doses of vitamins in it. Too much of certain vitamins and minerals in a small child can lead to some serious medical condition.

I don't really care enough about what other people that I don't know are doing to their kids, if she wants to give the kid fries, thats her problem, not mine!

Chat Icon Today at friendly's I gave Chelsea pieces of Chicken, a sip of apple juice and some ice cream to keep her occupied so I could eat. And at the Ecology center I gave her some of my italian ice....she is almost 7 months old. I guess I am a bad mommy.Chat Icon

Re: Dear Mom in the mall..

We can't judge other moms. EVeryone believes something diffrent. Some mom's follow the book, some follow wives tails, some make their own paths. Remember if you did something that someone else didn't like and then judged you???? Always remember "Do unto others as you would have do unto you". DH was brought up on Pizza, coke, and pasta. Now he is probably the healthiest person I Know. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

It sounds as if you were annoyed that she was advising you on how to raise your child. I see your point.

Re: Dear Mom in the mall..

I think the OP received some unsolicited advice on what to feed her kids from this mom at the mall and that is what she was commenting about.

Re: Dear Mom in the mall..

I really am offended that another mom would put expectations/requirements on motherhood. Every situation is different and ever child develops different, I can confidently say everyone has done or gone again
"the norm " when is comes to raising their chid and for you to comment/question that it is not fair. I think you have to take a step back and really look it, is it really putting the child in harms way.

My DS didn't have fries at 6 mos, but if I gave them to him then would i be a "bad mom" or would you call cps on me????

sadly judgement on motherhood is everywhere.
We weren't there, she was. I think her feelings on feeding a 6 mos old mall fries and whatnot is her own feelings. I know i would have been kinda shocked to see this. And secretly jealous since my DS is having such a hard time getting off purees. But from the post i did get the vibe that what annoyed the OP most was the critique she got from the other mother on feeding her child. So judgement went both ways in this case IMO.

Now while I probably did give DS french fries at 6 months Im not sure...I know he had chicken nuggets from Wendy's....(Right DancinBarefoot!!)

Im not a "new" mom. Ive got older children. Im sure I would have never of given it to my eldest daughter....you tend relax your parenting a bit on subsequent children.

Now while I personally dont see anything wrong with it, I dont push my beliefs on other mommies either. I, in turn, dont expect other mommies to push their beliefs on me.

That mom in the mall had no right to tell you how to feed your child. But, while you are intitled to your opinion, you shouldn't say that someone is "whacked out" b/c they dont share the same ideals as you.

Totally agree.

I have gotten lots of unsolicited advice over the years. I take what I think is worthy and leave the rest at the door. Chat Icon

We all judge. It's human nature.

I agree with the OP that it's definitely odd to be giving such foods and drink to your 6 month old. I personally cannot understand anyone who thinks that's the norm.
