Deer Park Residents! Off Topic!

What the heck are they building behind Stop & Shop and Home Depot? I ride the LIRR daily and they cleared a huge area over there. Just curious.

WOW! That's big news! I see there's a lot of controversy over this plan. In some ways it's great for Deer Park and LI but in other ways it's not.

Re: Deer Park Residents! Off Topic!

I'm not a huge fan of the idea. Tanger in Riverhead brings SO MANY folks out there and once the one in Deer Park is built, the Tanger in Riverhead will loose some sales big time.

Also, its going to get so conjested over there.

But I would still go and I think its going to be lovely, I just don't want the Riverhead Tanger to turn into the Bellport Outlets (yuck).

Riverhead has enough high end stores to insure that it won't become Bellport.

DH is an ironworker and his union is one of those obviously supporting the DP Tanger.

One of the main issues is fire safety. At one of the zoning meetings, the fire chief spoke on how their department would not be able to handle the complex.

Re: Deer Park Residents! Off Topic!

yea but I work will tons of gals who live in Queens who treck all the way out to the Riverhead Outlets. When Deer Park comes, they are gonna go there, which will decrease the amount of traffic Riverhead will get.

Possibly, but I know that I wouldn't mind there being less traffic/mayhem there during peak shopping times.

Riverhead relies so much on the tourism of Tanger and the income that comes out of it, it will be interesting how its handled.

Its not a possibility, they will def. loose some shoppers. Especially if they put mostly the same stores in Deer Park as Riverhead.

I think they'll win back those shoppers that stopped going due to the overcrowding. I highly doubt a mega "shopping" power like Tanger, would purposely sabotage their own shopping center.

Either way, I'm excited they are bringing more jobs and commerce to LI.

Re: Deer Park Residents! Off Topic!

I don't think Riverhead will lose any buisness. Like Chikita said, why would Tanger want to sabotage themselves? There are more than enough people to go around, LOL.
I am concerned about the traffic that will happen on Commack Rd, though, its already so congested over there as it is... and this area is not right off the LIE like the riverhead shopping center is.

It's very close to the Deer Park LIRR station. Perhaps folks will use this route to get there. In fact, it might not be a bad idea for the LIRR to create a stop there. This will cut down some of the anticipated traffic.

I work across from the Deer Park Train station and during rush hour it is a pain in the ars! Hopefully they do something about traffic over there. But I am excited about the outlets going there.

Its within walking distance of the existing deer park station, I doubt they would create a whole new stop.

Oh ok. It's hard to tell when on the train how close it is.

Tanger Corp also has decided to maintain the median on DPA from the Southern State north to the Huntington Town Line (dix hills).

They are trying to make good with Deer Park and the town of Babylon.

Traffic will be awful, especially the way they plan to re-route some of the traffic.

I live very close to this area and have mixed feelings. To have the added hassle of the traffic sux, but to have an outlet 90 seconds from your home...well, that can get dangerous.

I'm not sure how it will affect Riverhead.
I know I LOVE having the outlets so close to my home. I hope we don't loose any good stores to deer park.
I think the spot they've choosen is a bad one. My Dads office is right near there & its so congested already.
