DEF not pg... but looking for advice on choosing a new OB/GYN
I don't live on LI, so I'm not looking for specific names of dr.'s, just some advice and tips
I'm shopping around for a new OB/Gyn and I know that TTC is in our plans for the next year or so. With that in mind, any general tips on finding a new OB/Gyn to go through the whole TTC/PG thing with?
For example: -Big practice vs. Small practice -Is researching hospital affiliations important? -What's the deal with midwives? Some practices seem to have them? Do you wind up having appointments with them during a pregnancy? Or are they just there for the birth if you choose to use one? -Are there any websites out there that rank OBs?
Anything else to look for?
TIA Preggos!

link to check out doctors
Here is a link that will give you all the info on any doctor in ny, if they are board certified, if they have any malpractice suits, where they went to school, etc.....
I think its important to have a good doc affiliated with a good hospital, escp with a NICU unit.
As far as big practice/small practice. In my obgyn's office there are 2 other docs, I am 23 weeks and just met the other one yesterday and i will meet the other one in 4 weeks. So when I go into labor and my doc is not on call, I will have met the other 2 docs and feel comfortbale with them. So I'm assuming when its 8docs in an office, its the same thing, you rotate to meet all of them. As far as midwives, can't help you there bc my ob office doesnt have a midwife and I wasnt really looking for that.

Re: DEF not pg... but looking for advice on choosing a new OB/GYN
-Big practice vs. Small practice for me personally, I prefer small. There are only 4 other doctors in my practice and only those 4 would be able to deliver the baby. -Is researching hospital affiliations important? Yes, you want a doctor that delivers at the hospital you want to deliver at. -What's the deal with midwives? Some practices seem to have them? Do you wind up having appointments with them during a pregnancy? Or are they just there for the birth if you choose to use one? My office does not have one. I'm not sure how that works
Might Help

Big practice vs. Small practice - I tend to like small better your a patient with a name and a face not a #. my practice has 4 docs and a np
-Is researching hospital affiliations important? Yes i think its important you want to make sure the doctors you are using deliver/ have rights at that hosp. My docs dont deliver where i want but i would much rather have a great doc. and a good NICU then some of the other things that i wanted at a different hospital.
-What's the deal with midwives? Some practices seem to have them? Honestly i have no idea about this. iknow my practice has a Nurse practicioner?
Do you wind up having appointments with them during a pregnancy? Durring pregnancy you must see all of the doctors which i love because it lets you form a relationship with each and every doctor becase you never know who will be on call when it comes time for your little one to arrive.
-Are there any websites out there that rank OBs. Sorry im not sure
