defensive criers
How do you manage working with these types of people. Ive had many people coming into my office regarding a girl about 28ish who can not take any kind of talk towards her whether its constructivr criticism or team cooperation. This is now the 3rd day in a row that I had people in my office talking to me about her. Even 2 days ago, I went in to tell her that she should speak up in the meeting in regard to a problem she had in the classroom. If looks could kill, she stared at me for about 10 seconds like she didnt understand me then looked like she was going to cry. I actually left the room thinking "OMG...I feel terrible".. But this is happening to everyone. she just cant handle a conversation in general. She becomes very defensive at issues that arent defense related. everythings personal. How do we work as a team when we have to worry about hurting her feelings?

Re: defensive criers
I've noticed you can't change these people. They can do no wrong, take no responsibility for their actions and they will turn EVERYTHING against you and play the martyr.
Are you her supervisor? I'd CYA at all times, meaning make sure people hear you speak to her, so she can't freak out and say you abuse her.

Re: defensive criers
I know that there are people who are overly sensitive, but there comes a point where you wonder if it's done to manipulate.

Re: defensive criers
OMG! There is this grown woman at my job who does the same way and hence gets away with EVERYTHING!!!!!!! It drives me crazy. At first I felt so bad for her but now I think its done just like someone else has said...just to manipulate. Because she "cries" she has to do less work because less is expected of her. I think its ridiculous and should only be able to go "so far"....its not fair to the rest of us.

Re: defensive criers
I hear what everyone is saying but I am not sure she is manipulating us at all. I totally thinks shes this kind of person and how in the he!! do you change someone that has it embedded in them. She gets overexcited and then looks like shes gonna cry. Someone today came into my office and told me shes not speaking to them. c'mon now. My relationship with her...Yes, I am in a higher position then her and she does have to come to me but, no I am not her supervisor. I am in the clinical area if that makes sense. I have my own seperate dept but she has to come to me everyday with problems pertaining to her class. I would never want to supervise her. she would make me nutzzzz!
