My DD (almost 3 1/2) has become extremely fresh. I don't know if it's bc I'm pg and have no tolerance of much if anything anymore, but I can't take it. She's very defiant and no punishment seems to affect her. She's gotten spoken to in school already and it just started! Please tell me I'm not alone. How do you handle it?

It's the age and the stage

It's a pain

Just try to stay calm and in control and know that it will pass eventually :)

Going through it as well. It's like as soon as DS turned 3, he flipped the terrorist switch. It's beyond frustrating, I just keep telling myself it's only temporary.

Thanks for posting this picture. I've been looking for a chart that i can easily make for the twins other than a sticker chart. I am going to try this!!

It is definitely the age and I hope 4 is better than 3 because I can only handle a few more months of this! I'm drained. But know you are not alone and it HAS to get easier!

3 is horrendous. Way worse than 2.

O Lordie.. I'm terrified of the 3s personality change! DD is not 3 yet, but yesterday she went from sweet and cuddly to demon spawn in 2 seconds! Get this.. she tossed my phone, my iphone because I asked her if she wanted to watch something! I nearly lost it.. at one point she was screaming, I was yelling..bad I know! 2s gave me gray hair, I can't imagine 3s..

I agree, it's definitely the age. Although my five year old is fresh sometimes too!

We used the magic 1-2-3 system which seemed to help. I also tried to ignore much of the unwanted behavior as much as I could (as long as no one was getting hurt).

I know it;s a tough stage, but hang in there! Chat Icon

These replies are hilarious! I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't wait to go back to work tomorrow and wanting to give her away! I'm glad I started this thread!

Re: Defiant 3 year old

i thought i was just being punished for getting away with skipping the terrible twos . I think i want a redo cause i got the raw end of the deal ( might have been better dealing with the terrible twos ) hahah

I swear some days start out so amazing and then bam the flip of the switch crazy lady ( her not me )
its a wonder my hubby dont find me huddled in the fetal position in a corner somewhere sometimes .....love her to death all 8 of her personalities lol .

Re: Defiant 3 year old

my oldest son never had terrible 2s and then a week before he turned 3 it was like he was possessed by a different, fresh kid. It wasnt great. I was pregnant at the time too so not sure if that played in to it or not.

My now3.5yo was a HORRIBLE 2yo and is a better 3yo but is still a tough, challenging child.

That behavior chart the PP put up was cute! But we have tried bribes and behavior charts and my 3.5yo just doesnt care! He is his own person who does what he wants!!!

I just hope I make it through this phase!

GL!

Jess, this was totally Chris. I always say he was hte perfect child from birth until 3yo. Then it all went down hill!! Chat Icon

It got better when he was 4.5 and went to kindergarten. He is fresh now but nothing as challenging as he was at 3!!!

Re: Defiant 3 year old

I'm going through the same exact thing right now and Im at my wits end. It's funny because I was actually going to ask this question the other day. I could have written what you said word for word. DD is 3.5 years and a terror- horrendous!!!! I don't have much advice because I literally am going through the same thing with little success. I think it's the age and a stage that will pass. At least I pray it does because I don't know how much more I can take. I'm drained and 24 weeks pregnant too!

Whoever said 2 was so terrible was smoking something. She's so much worse at 3.

Hugs!Chat Icon
