Re: MIL VENT - its a long one
Since you were the one who told her that he didn't like it, I wouldn't be too upset. My MIL is a big busybody and has to make her point of view known on every topic known, which totally irritates both Dh and I.
I feel like you are probably more upset that your DH didn't like it than bothered about the recipe help. But maybe I'm reading it wrong. In either case, I hope you feel better soon!

Re: MIL VENT - its a long one
No you are not overreacting but try not to take it too personally.
Unfortunately it sounds like your MIL was just trying to make a silly point. It doesn't mean you didn't make it right - you just made it using a recipe diff from theirs.
I honestly don't think anyone was trying to harp on you - it seems like it had more to do with what the right way to make chick marsala. And it is stupid of her to make such a friggin deal.

Re: MIL VENT - its a long one
no, you're not over-reacting. I find it strange that your DH loves chicken and mushrooms but no chicken marsala
and your MIL should not have broadcasted it to the family, especially in front of you.
just so you know, it is not an easy thing to make. I have had it awesome, good, eh and just downright GROSS!

Re: MIL VENT - its a long one
i wouldnt be mad- shes just trying to tell you how it will taste better.
obviosly you will not use a ton of butter so you did the right thing and thanked them for the advice0 in one ear out the other.
since dh doesnt like chicken marsala to begin with, the whole point is moot since you probably wont be making it again.
feel better- i am sure she didnt mean harm. i woud let it go and make somethng tonight that he loves so you will feel better.

Re: MIL VENT - its a long one
My friend once made penne ala vodka. She thought the 2 sticks of butter the recipe called for was to much so she only put one in. It was not so good.
Don't be to upset. You offered up that he didn't like it. And who cares what they think

Thanks ladies.
My DH is mad at me for saying "I guess he only likes his moms cooking". And he's mad at me becasue I called my mom last night and I was venting to my mom and she said its the holidays be nice and maybe she was just trying to help -- he overheard the whole conversation.
You kind of implied he's a "mommas boy" with that. AND I think you put yourself down with that too Don't worry about it!

Re: MIL VENT - its a long one
No, you are not overreacting.I LOVE Cooking Light and I'm sure your recipe rocked. Don't let them get you down. I'm sure you don't like everything she cooks Alot of my recipes are from there and yes, they are alittle different, but when people are not used to change, they find fault in it, call it bland, etc, etc.... To each there own. I like to eat healthy and I enjoy it..so what. I also think you were a thoughtful wife for cooking something you thought he would like.

I know put myself down too, but I didn't know what to say.
And so I guess the truth hurts.

Nope, I think you are overreacting too. Next time, just tell her what you made and leave it at that.

Re: MIL VENT - its a long one
Your MIL is being smug. I would be upset too.
Your DH is exactly like my DH. I swear we are married to the same man.
If we put so much effort into trying something different, the least they can do is be appreciative.

Re: deleted - thank you for letting me vent.
I have to be honest and say I appreciate your husbands honesty. Can you imagine if he lied and said he liked it, and you made it again, and maybe even for company? Your MIL sounds like she was trying to get under your skin, and quite frankly, embarass you. But, I will say, Chicken Marsala is not something you can cook light.

Re: deleted - thank you for letting me vent.
My MIL is exactly the same way. How long have you been married? Over the years I've learned to take her with a grain of salt. And over the years she's learned that I'm not going to take her sh*t. So, I guess what I'm saying is, who cares what she says. So what if she thinks her recipe is "better." And if your husband only likes her cooking, tell him to eat at her house and you'll be making your own meals. Sounds like its time to cut the apron strings.

Re: MIL VENT - its a long one
I am sure your recipe was delicious. But, Marsala is not a taste everyone likes. So I wouldn't be offended.
I know how frustrating it can be because cooking takes time and you were probably very passionate about this recipe. And for your dh to say he didn't like it. My DH is a finicky eater and sometimes makes comments. But, I think he has learned to keep his mouth $hut since I am the only one who feeds him home cooked meals.
As for MIL, I probably wouldn't have admitted to my MIL that my DH didn't like my recipe. It's like adding fuel to the fire. Some MIL's get a rise out it.

Re: deleted - thank you for letting me vent.
Yes you are overreacting, IMO.
I don't know, I guess I would have to be there to hear if she was being nasty with you about it... but a discussion over how to make chicken marsala would not not offend me at all. Especially a new dish that I tried for the first time - I wouldn't expect myself to be perfect at it and I wouldn't even be upset if my DH didn't like it. It's happened on many occassions as a matter of fact.
I think you were a little oversensitive about it (but again, I didn't hear the tone in all of these conversations) and your comment about him only liking his mom's cooking was unnecessary.
That being said, I can understand your venting about it.
