Re: Need gift ideas?

I would like an answer to this also, since I have a communion on Saturday.

For baptism's, communions and confirmations I think a monetary gift is most appropriate. I can't really see giving a child something to actually unwrap. This is just my opinion though.

Does he have a favorite sports team - maybe his favorite player's jersey?

Is he too young for an ipod/mp3 player type thing?

I don't think he's too old for a bond. I gave one of my friend's son's a bond & a toys r us gift card for his communion - a something for now, something for later type thing.

I feel the same way but I feel like he's getting to old for a bond, and let's just say I want to make sure that the money would go away for him and I have no way of knowing for sure. There is a reason behind all this, too much to get into

yes you do, make the check out to him or give he cash. To be honest, most money made from Baptisms, Communions, Confirmations, etc is all usually saved up. Its not like a birthday.

I don't know if the kid has his own account and anyway the parents would have access. Cash is just as accessable, he is 7 they aren't going to let him hold all the money he gets. While I save all my DS money for him in the bank you can't be sure what other people do. Alot of people use some of the money to cover party expenses etc. My friend hasn't done this but has said a few things in the past that lead me to believe that this could happen, and IMO the money I give her kids should go to her kids not a party.

If this is the case, than I would just get him a gift card to Toys R Us.

Re: Need gift ideas?

We're going to a communion this weekend and giving a check and a small crucifix (necklace). I don't know if he'll wear it this young; hopefully he will when he gets older, but I don't like the idea of giving toys for a communion - I think it should be something that symbolizes the day.

Re: Need gift ideas?

yea, def. not a gift certificate to a toy store. The money you receive for an occassion like that should be saved. I wouldn't read into to much. Just do the right thing and give a monetary gift, its the proper thing to do for a communion.

Re: Need gift ideas?

I think a gift card is the way to go. If you don't want to do a bond. And you feel any money you give him won't be used for his best intrest. I have to say my savings bonds I received dfor my baptiim and communion came in very handy when I had to get insurance for my ist car.

I agree...either money or a bond is appropriate.

Edited to Add: what about giving a share of stock...that would be one way of knowing it would go to him...like buying a disney stock or something..although I don't know how long that takes to purchase.

The stock certificate is a cute idea!! Here's a place to order some that come in a frame...
