Deli Meat
I think someone said that you should have deli meat. I am having a ham sandwich, do you think that's OK. I was soooo in the mood for it.

Re: Deli Meat
The only thing they say to be aware of with deli meats is the small possibility of Listeria...I didn't think anything of it until there was a woman on fertility friend when I was PG that lost her baby due to it...
It has something to do with the bacteria in it...they suggest heating it up beforehand to kill the bacteria, but I don't know...
I am not saying this to be an alarmist, I had some sandwiches when I was preggo and my daughter is just fine...
Listeria article on webmd.com
Here's an article for you...again I don't mean to be an alarmist...

Very true, I did stay away from them my 1st trimester totally.
I was very obbessive in the beginning about food and it made me nuts! Everything in moderation my dr has told me and I agree.
I think it really is a personal decision on what you want to do and how far you want to take eating certain things. I couldn't be so obsessive anymore, since my body started rejecting salads, red meat. The only meat i can eat without agony is turkey and chicken, and that get's old real fast!
Just get those cold cuts from a busy reputable place, not a 7-11 or a deli that doesn't do much business, should be just fine.
Cold cuts and hotdogs are one of those touchy subjects which seem to differ depending on the belief of the dr and mom to be.
ETS: I only eat ham and turkey cold cuts. I wouldn't eat bloody roast beef, or cured cold cuts like salami, etc. I have eaten a piece or two over the course of my pg, but I wouldn't have a sandwich

Re: Deli Meat
I had sandwiches my entire pregnancy, for each kid. Sometimes that's all I could eat. Everything in moderation.

Re: Deli Meat
my nutritionist told me that deli meat is okay.. but it's best to get them pre-packaged (not the fresh cuts) because pre-packaged are pasteurized. you do not want to risk listeria.

Re: Deli Meat
I've eaten them the whole time. I've had pretty much everything -- ham, turkey, roast beef, even salami and bologna. My doc said to just be sure I am buying them from a reputable place that I know follows proper storage recommendations.

Re: Deli Meat
I just had my first doctor's appt last night- he said as long as it is cooked deli meat like ham. turkey, roast beef, corn beef- that's okay. Prosciutto, pepperoni or other cured meats have the risk for listeria.
