Is it safe to have Quiznos or Subway when pregnant?

Re: Deli meats?
Only if the meat is heated....not really supposed to have cold cuts becasue of risk of infection from Listeria (sp?)

Re: Deli meats?
Last night the doctor told me that if you get pre-packaged deli meats, you can eat them cold, such as perdue cold cuts, etc. But deli meat, behind the counter...really isn't very safe and if you do eat it, you should nook it.

Re: Deli meats?
Um, ok, I confess, I ate Subway like three times so far and I'm fine. I've also had feta cheese and I'm still fine. I don't eat these things often, so I didn't think it was a big deal. But that's how I personally feel for myself. And I'm pretty sure subway is pre-packaged deli meat. Ask them when you go in there.

My doc said cold cuts are fine as long as I get them from a reputable place.

Re: Deli meats?
My doctor told me cold cuts were fine. He said that the risk of lysteria was so low in general, the odds that it would happen while pregnant is almost non-existant.
But if you are really concerned you should ask your doctor, some are a lot more conservative than mine.

I was too parnoid in the first tri to eat deli meats or feta but once I was well into the second trimester I ate subway, deli meats, feta cheese and my baby is totally fine.

Mine said the same. I ate deli meat throughout my whole pregnancy.

Re: Deli meats?
I am a big believer of everything in moderation with a pregnancy (with the obvious exceptions - alcohol and smoking, which luckily for me, I dont have anyway). I have had cold cuts - mainly turkey. But not every day. I've had soft cheese but not much. And with my son, I had tuna. Im not a huge tuna fan anyway but it was one of those preggo cravings. I think its fine to have it 1 or 2x a week.

In regards to eating subway and these other products, you will feel fine. The problem is, that the bacteria will not effect you, but your baby. It can cross the placenta and the baby can't defend them off and could lead to problems. As the pregnant Mom, you will not feel any symptoms if that does occur, but your baby will. Subway is pre-packaged, but they sit out on the counter all day waiting to grow bacteria on it. I would be careful, JMO.

I totally agree with the above poster...everyone says "oh, i feel fine or I ate it during my pregnancy and I was okt" BUT there is a reason they tell you not to eat it...and that's because it HAS affected some pregnancies/babies. Hopefully you won't be affected, but you never know....JMHO...be careful!

Same here! and he added the listeria is present when meat sits around for awhile, so don't get your cold cuts from the mini mart at a gas station. EVerything in moderation.
