Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama Break Up After Nearly 6 Years As a Couple
Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valerrama have ended their nearly six-year relationship. "This was an incredibly difficult decision for both of us, but we have realized more than anything that we are better off as best friends," they said in a joint statement posted to their Instagram accounts.
The couple met in 2010, doing a PSA for Voto Latino, and kept their relationship mostly private at first — a fact you may have forgotten, given how publicly gushy they've been in more recent years.
On a more serious note, Demi has also credited Wilmer with helping her through her struggles with bipolar disorder and addiction. "He never takes credit for my sobriety, but I guarantee I wouldn't be alive without him today," she told HuffPost Live last year.
This is the latest in a series of Summer 2016 Celebrity Breakups — Zayn and Gigi, Taylor and Calvin — and arguably the saddest. I particularly appreciate that they didn't announce the split through a representative via People. That's true love in Hollywood.

Word.
I saw on another forum where someone said she was saying that she hoped for a ring soon. If that's the reason they broke up (bc he didn't want to marry her), then good for her for breaking it off now.

I'm kind of sad to hear this. They were on and off for a very long time, but I think he was very good for her - she struggled with a lot of issues and he was a huge support for her. But 6 years is a very long time to be "on and off" and not have a ring on her finger, so it sounds like one of them wasn't ready to commit.
