Denied insurance b/c of proximity to the water...help!
We live in Queens in an apartment building. We want to get co-op insurance. I called Geico and another place and was denied b/c of our proximity to the water! Understand that, but what they don't understand is that we are 4 floors up. I doubt we'll be getting tidal waves anytime soon on the north shore of Queens, but you never know.
Anyway, who can I call for insurance? And no State Farm.

My sister has co-op insurance through Allstate.
Allstate isn't taking any new homeowners policies in NY due to Katrina.

I also live in Queens and had the same problem, even though we are a block away from the water
Sorry, but the answer I have is the one you don't wanna hear- State Farm was the ONLY ones that would insure us. Keep searching, hopefully you'll have better luck than I did.

When we were in Little Neck we used Liberty Mutual. We use them now on the house as well, and the canal is at the other end of our block, so hopefully they will cover you.
Good luck!

State Farm and Traveler's insurance denied our apt insurance because of that too. I sent you an FM.
If you're more than 1500 feet from the water, I might be able to help.

Try Metlife. I have my co-op insurance through them. My coop is located less than a block from the East River...not sure if the same scenario as yours but it can't hurt to try.

I second Met Life- they were the only people who would cover me in Long Beach b/c I lived on the beach- I still live by the water- even though the cross island is in between- and they haven't raised my rates

Nationwide may also cover you. We had a fire and have an underground oil tank and they covered us

I had the same problem...so stupid. Call Statefarm - they'll take me. Also try Filos in Long Beach...they work with a lot of agencies and can help you.
