Dental Implant Surgery????
Did anyone ever have Dental implant surgery for one tooth? I'm going through it tonight, because I broke my tooth last week and I'm so scared, because I don't know anyone that has been through it. I googled it online and it seems so invasive.

Re: Dental Implant Surgery????
I never had it because I didn't want to lay out the money and insurance didn't cover it. My missing tooth was way in the back so I just left it. However, the oral surgeon said the implant process was less traumatic than the actual pulling of the damaged tooth. I don't think it will be that bad!

Re: Dental Implant Surgery????
I had it done for a back tooth. It sounds like the procedure is going to hurt a lot but it really isn't that bad. Actually, I thought the root canal and the extractions I have had were soooooo much worse. Good luck!!

Re: Dental Implant Surgery????
I'm in the middle of having one done right now. While on bedrest with my first baby, I had a tooth that needed a root canal but had to wait until I delivered. By the time I saw the dentist about it, I had to have an emergency extraction
The day before I was about to have the screw finally drilled in, I found out baby #2 was on the way and I had to put it off again
Finally, I had the screw drilled in last month and the actual drilling part didn't hurt. They used local anesthesia and the only thing I felt was a little pressure. Once the novocaine wore off, that's when I had swelling/pain. It felt like I had a tooth extraction again. After a few days, the swelling went away and I forgot that anything even happened in that area.
They told me it'll take anywhere from 6 weeks to 4 months for the bone to fuse to the screw. Once that happens, they'll make an impression. The dentist told me the hardest/most painful part is already over (tooth extraction and having screw drilled in).
Good luck to you! If you want, I can tell you how the next step goes...I go back later this month to have the impression made (hopefully)!

Re: Dental Implant Surgery????
I have one implant and didn't find it bad at all. I was fully awake for the whole thing (just some novovaine shots in the area), and whole having it done, seemed like it toook forever, but my dentist was so quick and he probably drilled the screw in in less than 5 minutes.
Had to let it heal and had to stay away from eating things with poppy seeds and such. Then I went back from the impression, and then had the tooth fitted. It seemed like such a long process for 1 tooth, but it's been about 5 years and no issues at all. And the dentist matched my teeth color perfectly, so you can't even tell which tooth it is!

Re: Dental Implant Surgery????
Thank you guys so much. I had it done on Thursday night. I have some swelling, but not too painful at all. The worse part was the pulling of the tooth, cutting of the gums and the cost.
