Dessert & Coffee for party?

for Lucas' party...we are having everyone at our house but I am just now realizing that I didn't think of dessert and coffee. I plan on getting a cake but I think I might make platters of desserts for each table (simple things - cookies, brownies, etc)

Do you think that is necessary (seriously open to your opinions on that)

Also...how do I deal with the coffee? Is this something that I should be able to ask the restaurant I'm getting the food from? How does that work?

Re: Dessert & Coffee for party?

I'm ordering a cake, making cupcakes, and getting a fruit platter, and I'm putting them all on the main banquet table.

I have a large Farberware Coffee Urn that I will also put on that table so everyone can help themselves.

Re: Dessert & Coffee for party?

The place you ordered the food from should be able to supply a large coffee urn for a few hours

Re: Dessert & Coffee for party?

I would maybe do 1-2lbs of cookies on each table.... that should be plenty with the cake...

Ang -

I have a huge coffee urn - if you want to borrow it - it's yours.

My mom and I just went over desserts the other day so it's fresh in my mind:

The cake
An ice cream cart (or truck hopefully)
An edible arrangement bouquet for fruit

My mom and Aunt are making cupcake cones and also marshmellows dipped in chocolate with toppings (on sticks)

I MAY do cookie platters - but I'm not sure just yet!

I was just going to offer my coffee urn also. Let me know if you need it!!

For the family party, I had his cake, fruit salad, cookies, brownies, other cakes, pastries (mostly from the guests)~

ETA: Costco also has a variety pack of ice-cream sandwiches, cones, sticks that you may want to consider. I believe there are 30 in each pack!

I would actually do a small fruit platter for each table. I think cake is enough. As for the coffee, you can ask your caterer for those tall pitcher coffee makers...makes things so much easier!

Re: Dessert & Coffee for party?

I have a HUGE coffee percolator thing myself. Like 40 cups or something. You can borrow it when you pick up the favors! Chat Icon Chat Icon

For dessert, I usually have:

* The birthday cake
* A huge ice cream/ make your own sundae table
* Homemade chocolate
* Chocolate dipped strawberries/ marshmallows/ pretzel rods
* Brownies/ cookies
* Fresh fruit

Re: Dessert & Coffee for party?

We always have an over load of desserts..it's a must in our family Chat Icon .

We always have the following:

birthday cake which is neopolian (althought it may change since I am not going to astoria to pick it up Chat Icon )
cookies of all sorts from my SIL
fruit salad
mud pie
cupcakes

This year I am also going to make a cars cake, so we will see how that comes out.

Depending how many people you have it might not be a bad idea to barrow 2 urns. You could have one regular and one decaf pot ( you don't have to make all the cups it makes) and just you so know it takes up to half hour to brew.

Re: Dessert & Coffee for party?

I would do cake and fruit. If you feel really motivated, get the big tub of cookie dough from Costco and bake cookies for a few hours the day before.

I think it was Peter and Gianni...something like that around 42nd street (could be avenue). They were very reasonable ($50) for half sheet and just so good. I think they have a little cafe part too. If you want I can find out the exact info.
