Desserts
How often do your children have some kind of unhealthy dessert such as cookies, cakes or ice cream?
Ages 3 and up.

Re: Desserts
My boys get dessert after dinner everyday (pretty much). It could be any of those you mentioned. Often they may have a cookie or two or a piece of chocolate after lunch or at some point betwen lunch and dinner. As long as they are eating healthy, they know they can have some unhealthy snacks during the day.

Re: Desserts
We generally only give dessert on the weekends. Mostly because I come home fairly late and have to cook supper and sugary dessert at 8:30 doesn't work!
There are times that I will make a special dessert and give them that.
I do not usually keep many sugary sweets though - so it's rarely an issue with them. We might have a half gallon of ice cream around.. anything else is special purchase.

Re: Desserts
I am going to take December out of the mix, since "santa" gives a piece of candy/chocolate every night in the advent calendar.
In the summer - they pretty much only want ice pops every night. I usually try to get the real fruit in them bars.
outside of the summer and december and the first week of november - probably every other day.

Ditto. She gets to pick her dessert...most nights its a cookie, but sometimes it's those gummy fruit snacks, pretzels, crackers or something like that too.

Same here...but it can range from ice cream, cookie, orange, apple - she is all over the place for desserts

Re: Desserts
Bella sees a "treat" as anything from applesauce and fruit to a piece of chocolate or ice pop...
I would say 1-2x a week for chocolate and ice pop.

Re: Desserts
She gets dessert every night, however, only once or twice a week is it something sugary. It's almost always apple sauce, grapes or something like that. Every now and then she can have an ice pop or one cookie or a granola bar. Never anything over the top, though.

Re: Desserts
Not very frequently at all - never at home but if we are out, we will pick up some frozen yogurt, or if we have a party, she can eat treats/desserts at the party. On occasion, I'll take her out for a treat randomly.
I try very hard not to attach a "treat" to any kind of meal - I think it sets up very bad habits for a child to associate dessert with every meal, and having to eat the meal to get the dessert. So if I give Alex or YaYa a treat, it's usually random, during the day, not at all associated with any meal.
