Developing a sense of fear or is there something else going on? (Long)

So, normally, my 8 month old DD has an awesome temperment. She doesn't give me a problem with anything really- she eats great, sleeps great, plays great, you get the picture.

Lately, she has been such a crab! She gets very upset very easily- and I'm having a hard time even putting her down! On Sunday afternoon, I went to go put her in her jumperoo- and she started to cry- normally she loves that! So I laid a blanket down with some toys- and when I put her down she started to cry again.

Last night, she woke up at 1am hysterical crying. She was frantic- I figured she had a bad dream. I couldn't get her to calm down. Finally, DH gave her a stuffed animal (we had tried everything)- and she grabbed on to it and fell asleep. When I picked her up at daycare, they told me that she had a nightmare in her sleep- and started hysterical crying while she was sleeping. She wasn't even awake while she was doing this- so they picked her up and she woke up, but was still crying.

Tonight we gave her a bath. Normally she LOVES her bath and is all happy during it. Tonight, about a minute into her bath, she just looks at me and starts hysterical crying again.

DH thinks maybe she is developing a sense of fear all of a sudden- but I'm not sure.

She's not been eating well either- not too interested in her bottles, and she's not really eating her cereal and fruit or veggie with the voracity that she had been a few days ago.

She doesn't have any teeth yet- Could all of this be related to teething?

I'm so worried about her- that I was thinking of calling her Ped tomorrow.

Thanks for reading!

Liz, this sounds a lot like DS right now too. Although he has two teeth, they seem to bother him because he doesn't know what they are. Is this teething related? Beats the hell out of me. But I want you to know, you're not alone. Chat Icon

Same here. DD cut her first two teeth at once at around 8 months. The pain from teething is like a shooting pain and my ped said that in some kids when there are relaxed (sleeping) it is worse.

Welcome to teething, Liz. Chat Icon

I was also going to say teething.
Bryan was teething on his First Birthday.
He was OK all day, but, by 11 that night, he was up. Could not comfort him for anything. After about 3 hours or so, he fell asleep in our bed.
Broke our hearts. We could do nothing to help him.

At her age she is also starting separation anxiety. Which would cause a lot of the behaviors you are describing. She will grow out of it eventuallyChat Icon
