DH & I saw Hamilton last weekend...
It came to my city in NC last year - I volunteer at the venue and get free tickets. I was nervous to see it b/c I was afraid I wouldn't know what was going on so I listened to the album on Spotify for the week leading up to my viewing. I enjoyed the show a lot since I was familiar with the music and I understood what was going on. Listening to Spotify through headphones - I was able to clearly hear the words and follow the story. If I had just seen it performed live, I would have been lost.

I have no desire to see it so I am pretty sure I'd feel the same way. Then again I think I'm the only person in the world who didn't care for Wicked either.
Nope. I hated Wicked too. Bored me to death and I couldn't follow it. I think I wouldn't have been as dissaointed had it not been for all the hype. I went in expecting an amazing show- I kept saying- what am I missing???

WOW. I loved it. When it first hit before I listened to the score I was like Nah...but once I listened I was hooked. I have seen it twice.
Book of mormon was hysterical! Not sure what is not to love.
But I am a HUGE broadway geek and see almost all shows...

You have to listen to the score beforehand to truly appreciate it. It's like lyrical poetry, Lin-Man really is a genius. If you go in blindly I can see totally understand why you may not appreciate it. You miss alot and probably won't make the connections to prior songs, lyrics, story etc. The soundtrack is awesome though. I've listened to it sooooo many times.
Also, I saw it without the original cast on Broadway and they were just ok... I really wish I would've gotten tickets when Lin, Renee Goldstein (Angelica) and Phillpa Soo (Eliza) were in the leading roles. They are phenomenal.
