DH and I are looking to move to NJ...any advice/recommendations?
This is prob the wrong board to post on, but it has the most traffic and I would love advice!
We cannot afford a very expensive house and would love to live in central NJ. DH is from Freehold and we LOVE the area but right now it's too much $$.
If you are from NJ, where do you live and are there nice but affordable areas? Any help is appreciated, I am researching homes..finding ones I love, but they are way too south.
TIA!

My SIL lives in West Orange and it is a nice area and affordable. There are some great surrounding towns (Montclair) and some awesome restaurants and bars, as well as school districts.

we're moving to Union Township. taxes are very reasonable & we're 1/2 from NYC (with no traffic that is)

Passaic County - not all of the towns have high taxes and there can be some great deals the more north you go. I'm close to the city and most importantly...close to long island.

Re: DH and I are looking to move to NJ...any advice/recommendations?
I grew up in Princeton and love Central NJ!!! There are plenty of nice towns, but they all went up in price and I looked and didn't see anything under $300,000 (most well over that). Some I like are Lawrenceville, East/West Windsor, Hamilton Square...

Re: DH and I are looking to move to NJ...any advice/recommendations?
Montclair and Maplewood are very nice, but there are less expensive towns, and they aren't really central NJ. Princeton and the surrounding area are also great, but very $$$$.
I grew up in a town called Bound Brook, which I would not recommend based upon the school district or the commute to the city, though it's not a bad town in other ways. There are also some flooding issues there from time to time--really research any towns along the Raritan River. It floods a lot.
Some towns where you could probably do well for your $$$ include Colonia, Edison, Metuchen, North Brunswick, Somerville (flooding there too though), Middlesex, Plainfield, and Bridgewater.
Good luck!

I agree with this. We live in this area and it's $$$$$ and the taxes are $$$$$ as well.

You could also check out Monroe Township. It is very reasonable mainly because they are building it up now.
