DH and I are moving next week
We have a great apartment in Manhattan, but we also have a lot of personal debt. With a baby coming- we decided that the best thing would be to eliminate our debt as much as possible. We both make a good salary, but with the debt, its hard to save. SO we decided to move in my my mom in LI for a few months and sublet our apartment.
DH is really dreading it. He knows its best for our future- but I just can't get him to feel positive about it. He and my mom get along very well, but like every inlaw there are things that get on his nerves and he is so respectful- he would never say anything. Not to mention that when we decided to do this, my mom was planning on working part time, and now she isn't and will be home a lot.
I am not particularly looking forward to it myself. I will be commuting from LI to NYC at 9 months pregnant. (We move back 3 weeks before I am due). Plus I am not a big driver and will be driving DH's extra car- a van. DH works in LI but his clients are in the city so he has to do a lot of back and forth himself. But I see the goal= and how much $ we can save from just 5 months. I also see that before we have the baby we will be back in the city and back to our old routine. I just really want to be in the city with the baby- my life is here, my friends are here, and I woudl be too scared to drive anywhere so i will be stuck home with the baby. I live right by central park and Riverside Park so there are plenty of places for me to go outside. We will come back here and live with the baby- our BR is big. When the baby needs its own room, we will look for a bigger place in the same building or with the same management company.
I can't beleive that this is actually happening and we are leaving our apartment 11/1. Its so sad. I know its for the best, but I am so worried about being stuck in the house in LI, DH being happy, my mom and i not killing each other, etc.. And I have been trying to get DH to see the good side of it- that I haven't had a chance to be sad myself.
Thanks for the vent!

Re: DH and I are moving next week
I was in a similar situation after my DH and i got married. We moved in w/my IL's (who I adore and it's still hard) - and it turned out great! Less than a year later our debt has been significabntly reduced and his parents sold us the house!

Re: DH and I are moving next week
When we found out we were expecting we decided to give up my apartment and move in with my husband's father. We now have SO MUCH less space but are able to save a lot each month, which will come in handy once I go back to work and we have to pay child care, as well as once we do get our own place again. It's definately a sacrifice and there are days when I want to scream and just demand that we move out, but I know it's the smart decision.
I wish you guys the best of luck!
