DH and I finally agreed on granite! with pic
Yes, it was a struggle because we seem to have very different taste but we compromised and I think it will look great with our cabinets. We visited six granite yards (some of them more than once) and it took weeks! That's what I get for having a DH with an opinon! 
Anyway, it's called Bianco Antico - and DH had to have this slab because he didn't like the others 
This first one has a reflection from the forklift...
Now we only have to decide on the faucet, backsplash, knobs... I see more discussions coming. But at least it's coming together 
ETA: Here is a photo of the kitchen floor and the cabinet color - not sure what the name of the color is, but it's maple wood. The same color is in the granite (looks like sand sprinkled through the granite - I think it's mica or quartz).
