DH got a letter in the mail...
Telling him that his APR in his credit card was going to DOUBLE....
JUST BECAUSE!!!!
He called them and had to spend 40 minutes on the phone, speak to 3 people, threaten to transfer his balance, tell them he will be taking his business elsewhere, for them to agree to only up his APR 3 points instead of doubling it.
Man, this economy sucks!

Ugh, that's horrible. At least he was able to talk them down...
I don't understand the difference between what CC companies do and loan sharking!!!

Re: DH got a letter in the mail...
I called the other day to lower mine and they told me that there weren't any lower rates available...I transferred my balance to a 0% card that same day....they are going to get higher and I am not risking it.

So take your business elsewhere. I wouldn't bother with these people when there are tons of 0% credit cards offers out there.

Re: DH got a letter in the mail...
I received a similar letter from WAMU Visa few months ago... it said that if I didnt respond in writing that they would raise my APR, very sneaky if you ask me... so I cancelled the card...

Which 0% cc offers do you think are the best right now?

That was a thought, but most of the 0% credit cards have APR's that will eventually go up to something much higher. DH is almost done paying this card off, so he is going to deal for the next month or 2. The APR he arranged with them is still pretty low.
It's just frustrating because he has a perfect record with this company and they are just raising rates because they can.

Re: DH got a letter in the mail...
My citibank card just raised mine as well. I just got done appling for a HSBC visa card with 0% apr offer. I don't like citibank. I don't think they are fair. My husband and I both got the same card at the same time (we were not married yet) and both pay the bill on time every month - no difference. But they raised his credit limit, never once raised mine AND raised my APR for no reason and his went down a little. ***!!! We even have the same credit score, one point off.

Check out AMEX Blue. I'm not sure if they're still offering 0% but I do know they have 3.9 FIXED which is really good.

Re: DH got a letter in the mail...
I just transferred my balance to a Visa Disney rewards card. They offered 0% on the balance for 15 months, and then I can earn points from purchases towards Disney! WHOO HOO!

Re: DH got a letter in the mail...
I was going to say Citibank too.
Doesn't matter. You can still apply for another Citi card that has a 0% offer. If you get approved... BT the money over.

Actually, you can't transfer a balance from a Citi card to a different Citi card. This goes for all banks. You can not transfer balances to cards under the same bank.

Re: DH got a letter in the mail...
They doubled my APR too. Yet DH has a citi card and his rate is still at 8%. I don't want to cancell the card because they say it is not good for your credit to cancell a card you have had for a long time. And i have an almost perfect credit score so i am very anal about it. I just stopped using that card and started using my other credit card that went down to 8% like 6 months ago.
