DH has to travel for work the month before due date

I'm due 11/13. Right now the OB is talking about possibly inducing me anywhere between 37 & 39 weeks IF I start to show signs of Pre-E again. But as of now (26 weeks) I'm looking good.

We just found out that DH has to travel to Detroit from October 17th - 20th for work. It's a huge convention for his field that occurs every year and he's absolutely expected to be there. It's just shy of 1 month prior to my due date, so I think it will be fine, but I'm a little nervous about him not being home.

Am I just being overly nervous for nothing? 4 weeks prior to my due date should be OK for him to be away for a few days, right? I do have family very close by in case I need them for anything, but I'm more worried if I went into labor DH would miss DD's birth. I know neither of us could handle that.

As it gets closer to the convention, ask your doctor. I think it's fine for him to go but this is really a personal decision. Trying to plan around a baby's arrival is difficult. Like one of my friends says "You make plans and G-d laughs!"

I think it's fine. DD has an important trip the week before my due date. I originally thought it wpuld be after, but both my due date and trip dates ended up changing...
We're just waiting to see what happens. I could always have the baby early or late. His flight home is the day before I'm due. He already looked up flight times in case he needs to come home quick.

That's tough but I think I'd just try to be okay with it unless things change as you get closer. I don't have much experience with preE thankfully but how fast could things go from okay to needing to deliver? Could be something to talk to your doctor about. Hopefully he'd have time to get home if need be. That early I would think makes anything happening less likely but should you have to deliver for any reason having him there would be that much more important. Having dealt with an unexpected cs at 35 weeks and dd2 needing to go straight to nicu I can't imagine not having the support of dh. At the same time, when my niece was born we knew there was a decent chance her husband would miss it and I just made sure I was prepared to be there for her if need be. Thankfully he made it!

They're monitoring me every 3 weeks right now. By the time 36 weeks rolls around they will be monitoring me weekly. But with PreE things can change very quickly. With my DS I was totally fine, went in for my routine checkup at 39 weeks and my BP was skyrocketed, they hooked me up to be monitored for 45 minutes and said "Oh no, baby needs to come out today" and that was that. I mean, I was having episodes of elevated BP for weeks prior, but not to the point of anything needing to be done until that very day. I have an OB appointment on the 18th (the day after DH leaves for Detroit) and my fear is that at that appointment if my BP is elevated, they could decide to induce. He wouldn't have enough time to get home...even if he caught a flight that same day, it's a slim chance he would make it in time.

I have a regular OB appointment on October 6th, so I guess we will just see how my BP looks at that appointment and if all is OK, he'll go ahead and leave as scheduled on the 17th. If it looks like its elevating then he will have to call his boss and duck out.

Do you have a home BP monitor? If not, I'd probably invest in one. Just take it once a day when you're relaxed to keep an eye on it between appointments. With both my pregnancies my BP spiked at times before and and delivery but thankfully it never got beyond needing to be monitored. Maybe it would give you some peace of mind or an earlier heads up if it starts to rise.

I am always worried when I'm monitored closely at the end that some reason to induce immediately will come up, so I get being worried about that. It happened to a coworker around 35 weeks. She left for an appointment during lunch hour and ended up going in to the hospital.

Can you call your OB and see about switching your appointment on the 18th to the 16th? For peace of mind at least?

I wouldn't worry too much about him traveling. FWIW, I had elevated BP throughout the 3rd trimester and severe swelling during my first pregnancy. I was put on bed rest 1 month before my due date when my BP got even higher, monitored closely for the next few weeks and then induced at 38 weeks. I had absolutely no BP issues with my second pregnancy and delivered at 38w5d when I went into labor on my own.

Thank you for sharing! This is so reassuring to hear. We have an at-home BP monitor that I check daily and so far, it's been on the low side if anything. So, I'm really hoping that this time around I never have any of the issues I had with DS.
