Re: Diamond Studs...

Take into consideration the quality of the stone also meaning the color and the clarity.

Re: Diamond Studs...

Also that they need to match (in that the clarity, irridescence & light reflection/prism should be consistent).

If they are total weight 1carat I'd expect to pay $1500 & up.

1 carat to 1 1/2 carat each...matching of course... good quality- but I have been told that it doesn't have to be the same "quality" as would an engagement ring...

We are going to ask our e-ring guy-he was great, but we wanted to have an idea first

IMO, if I am going to invest in diamond studs I would want to get the same quality as my e-ring. My DH bought me a pair and he made sure that the stone was of great clarity and color. He feels that buying a diamond is like making an investment.

Let's just put it this way my DH made sure he invested in an e-ring that was of excellent quality. He did follow the rules for the 4c's.

There's such a great variance in price.

IMO, a great cut is the most important in earrings. You don't need an D/E/F stone for studs and you can go lower on clarity as well.

I also don't look at jewelry/diamonds as an investment unless you plan to sell your jewelry. (That's just a great marketing ploy. How many people actually sell and make a profit on their diamonds?) And should that be a possibility for you, you're better off purchasing a medium quality stone(s) as opposed to a high qaulity (D and vvs) because there's a greater demand for them, making them easier to sell.

Your best bet is to look at the cost of stones on Pricescope to get an idea.

The most important factors to me would be color and clarity. For color, I wouldn't go for anything less than a F/G and on clarity nothing less than an SI1, preferably a VS1 or VS2.

I have total 1.2 ct (1/2 each) and I believe they were in the region of $3,000.

When I stated about investment in my post I was not talking about to resell it. I meant if I am going to invest in any diamond I would love to get something of excellent quality. This is just Dh and I opinions about buying diamonds.

Totally, totally agree! When it comes to studs, cut is most important.

Imo, cut should be the most important with any diamond - you can get a flawless stone and a poor cut will ruin it.

While my stones are of quality, they certainly weren't purchased to make a profit.

Thank youChat Icon

we went to 3 jewelers and all told us that cut was most important and did not need to be the same clarity/quality as my e-ring... Since it is going to be a big buy, we wanted to have a general idea...and I think we do now. We are going to go to our e-ring dealer and see what we can get from him... thanks!

It's all in where you choose to put your $$$.

If you have a budget, you have to choose: do you want bigger stones? Or do I need to know that they're D/E/F w/VVS1-2.

Either way, the stones cost the same.

Most jewelers will tell you that it's not necessary to go to the higher grades when it comes to studs...unless you're talking larger carat weights like 4ctw+.

Let's be realistic, how many people can figure out the color & clarity of someones studs?

The most important factor is the cut. If you have a poor cut, it doesn't matter what your stone's stats are...they won't sparkle.

Re: Diamond Studs...

I was at Fortunoff yesterday looking at studs since DH and I talked about this for my 40th. I tried on many different pairs.

Of course Fortunoff is way $$$$$$$ but I tried a G/H SI2 and they were just under 2ct TW and they were $11K.

If you go below the 1ct tw each mark they go down in price. So get 80pts each and the price should drop.
