Diaper Genie (or something like it) - Yay or Nay???
Did you get a diaper disposal system??? Did you use it??? Was it more of a pain than anything??? Was it a life saver??? Please tell me your experience.
I'm debating whether or not to keep the one that was given to us. One of DH's aunts got us the diaper genie. We did not register for it, but she said it was her savior as her garbage man only came once a week.
I was not going to get a specific diaper disposal system.
We live in an apartment and can get rid of our garbage any time we want. I also was thinking space wise it would be one less thing for us to fit in.
My plan to use diaper sacks (or even plastic bags for that matter), and for the really horrible ones that you just have to get out, I was going to take out ASAP.

Same as you We live in an apartment, I am less than thrilled with a concept of keeping dirty diapers stored in the baby's room. I have a garbage shoot 5 feet away from our front door. And scented bags are a life saver.
Poopy diapers go doooooown the shoot!

I didn't use one. I just used the bags from the supermarket. If she poops we knotted it up right away and but it in the garbage outside. I found once it was knotted the smell didn't drift out.

I didn't register for one or get one, I did get a couple of boxes of the disposable bags-that's what I will be using.

Nope, we use cloth diapers. Poop gets flushed down the toilet.

Re: Diaper Genie (or something like it) - Yay or Nay???
DD is 9 mths old. I thought I might need it but not at all. She is eating solids, and even if her diapers are stinky, they never stink up the house. I dont even use diaper bags, they are a waste IMO. I just throw the dirty diaper into the garbage can and we bring the garbage out like every 2 days.
IMO def not needed, not even teh bags in most cases, esp if you can easily get your garbage out.

Also wanted to add, when they are not eating solids, their poop is smaller and I find didnt have much of a smell. Now that DD eats solids, she doesnt even poop everyday (actually never did poop everyday) so its not an issue anyway.

Re: Diaper Genie (or something like it) - Yay or Nay???
I think most people who get it like it, and most people who don't really don't miss it. So I would say put it on your registry, if someone purchases it then great. If not, i wouldn't run out and get one. I didn't have one with DS and I don't plan on getting one this time.

No diaper system for us. We got a simple human trash can with the push petal thing for the foot. Smelly ones doe out immediately, and we change the liner every other day. Ours fits plastic grocery bags so I feel like I recycle them to some extent.

Re: Diaper Genie (or something like it) - Yay or Nay???
DD is 3 months old. I have the diaper genie. I haven't put one diaper in it. I throw the diapers in the middle of the night into the bathroom garbage because I go in anyways to wash my hands. During the day, I usually change her downstairs so the diaper goes into the kitchen garbage.
So far, it has been a total waste for me and I swore when I registered for it that I was going to use it all the time.

That's exactly what we plan on doing. I love Simple Human garbage cans.

Re: Diaper Genie (or something like it) - Yay or Nay???
honestly this was one thing i was all about when registering...i never thought about this, i just assumed i would put the smelly diapers in a plastic grocery bag and be done...and you know what? 7 months later it hasn't failed me! that's a big waste of money in my idea!

I have the Diaper Champ. I love it!!! It uses regualr garbage bags, so you dont need to spend extra money on special refills. It covers the smell of the diapers so well!!! I highly recommend it!

I didn't register for one. I did register for a couple of biodegradable diaper sacks but everything will be going outside in the trash.

Re: Diaper Genie (or something like it) - Yay or Nay???
We originally bought one and then thought better of it. We went to walmart and bought a little step on garbage can. We bought the tiny little bathroom garbage bags (they come on a roll of 150 for $2 at Target/Walmart). We empty the bag every other day and once a week I lysol the garbage can. It worked better for us because it takes up way less room and is less expensive.
