Diaper rash - oy!
Looks like I am full of questions/comments the past 2 days!!
Ethan has been taking antiobiotics since last friday for a cough/cold thing that just wouldn't go away. It has of course affected his tummy and he has had the poopies.
Yesterday he started to develop a rash so I gave him a bath to clean him up and put on some prescrip antibiotic ointment and diaper cream - this has always helped in the past with a bad rash. Unfortunately it has done NOTHING and the rash is only getting worse. He basically has a giant red welty bottom and little sores like cuts. The last time he had something similar the dr prescribed this antiobiotic ointment and said to treat it like a cut...
Diaper change this morning was so miserable it brought tears to my eyes to see him in such pain.
He has not had the antibiotic since last night and I have no plans on giving it to him until i can get this rash under control.
We have tried triple paste, boudreoux's butt paste, and desitin overnight which is 40% zinc oxide...
I have left a message for the ped and am waiting for a call back...
Any suggestions welcome! Sorry so long winded!

Re: Diaper rash - oy!
Ds had a bad rash at one point and none of the ointments were helping, I started putting baby powder on his bottom at each changing and that helped a lot.

Ask your pediatrician if you can supplement Ethan's food with acidophilus. It will help with the intestinal side effects of antibiotics. As for the diaper rash I find aveeno's rash creme to work incredibly well without irritation.

I found Aveeno diaper rash cream is amazing.. I just posted about my experience with pres. med. The Aveeno rash cream is new and it cleared up my DD last diaper rash (i had tried triple paste and butt paste and didnt work). BRU sells the Aveeno cream, I say try that..

Re: Diaper rash - oy!
I've lived through MANY awful rashes due to medication.
For an antibotic rash you should see if you can put an acidipholus capsule in his bottle or if he's eating have some yogurt. You just can't have the yogurt or acidipholus at the same time as the meds or it won't work. I usually give the medication first thing in the morning and at dinner time. I would put acidophilus in her bottle at lunch and night time. It really helps!!!
For the rash I found Lotrimin works well if its a yeast rash (looks pimply) or Neopsporin if its just really red and raw. You need to put a generous amount on with each diaper change and then put a diaper cream over that. Glob it on. Also don't use wipes, they only irritate it. Just use a wet paper towel.
Hope he feels better!!
