Diaper Rash- I feel so bad for my baby

Yesterday my DD was fussy all day and screamed all afternoon.. Nothing I did helped her. Until I gave her a bath (she screamed during bath, but after she was a happy baby).. Then when i was drying off I noticed her tooshie was a little red and what a little rashie. When i put the Destini on she SCREAMED-- I felt soo bad.. thats must have been why she was screaming all day.. I wiped it off and put vaseline and she was a much happier baby. Poor thing was soo uncomfortable that she didnt nap yesterday and then slept from 8pm-3am..

Im cleaning her at diaper changes with wet bountys (like i did the first few weeks) and using Vasline. Will this help clear the rash, or should I be doing something else? What do you do for diaper rash? She is only 7 wks old (today)

I know this might sound funny but....jock itch cream. The zinc in the ointment is probably stinging when you put it on.

We've had to use this and the diaper rash was cleared up in less than two days!

Hope she feels better soon. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I swear by Triple Paste. DD had the worst rash--it was bright red and raw and she would scream during diaper changes, we tried everything else including a prescription that the doctor gave us. Then we used the Triple Paste and the rash cleared out in one day!

You should try Butt Paste. It is a diaper rash ointment that contains zinc oxide. I works very well. I bought it at Rite Aid. Here is a link to it:

You did say that she screamed when you put the desitin on her. That and the pastes contain the zinc. The ointment could be what's making it worse. It's a different type of fungus I believe.

If you feel more comfortable, call your doctor and ask if it's ok to use the jock it cream. I just checked the label and it says to not use under two. I have and it cleared up fast with no pain to DS, but he is older than your DD. HTH

DD gets really bad diaper rash when she's on antibiotics. The Lotrimin will only work if its a yeast rash (will look very pimply). If it doesn't look like a yeast rash the thing that worked the best was just neopsporin and aquaphor. You can't be stingy with the stuff. Really GLOB it on!!! It will clear up in no time.

I've used the butt paste and triple paste and they work well, but if its really bad and painful I'd try either lotrimin or neosporin with the aquaphor.

Good luck and hope it clears up soonChat Icon

Re: Diaper Rash- I feel so bad for my baby

My PED recommended the jock itch cream (Lotrimin) for DD when she was just 3 months old- so even though it says to not use under 2, apparently you can.

I also love the triple paste for rashes (after the Lotrimin has dried) and use Aquafor for when there is no rash.

Also- try letting DC do some naked tummy time. Whenever DD is rashy, I let her go without a diaper for an hour or two to help dry her out.....
