Diarrhea and Milk?

Is it okay for DC to have milk and milk products when going through a bout of diarrhea?

DS has it today, though he doesn't seem sick otherwise. Unless this is the first sign of it, he does not have milk allergies or lactose intolerance. He likes milk, so it seems a good way to keep him hydrated.

TIA!

I am not a mom but I wouldn't. Usually that is the first thing you should cut out of the diet -- milk/dairy.

My ped only stops milk for diarrhea and/or vomiting. My ped recommended for DD when she had diarrhea to drink pedialyte and ginger ale (stir out the bubbles). He says you can return to milk after 24 hours of no diarrhea.

Thank you! I really wasn't sure.

He HATES pedialyte and would not drink it at all. But we do have some ginger ale in the fridge, it's probably flat. I may give him some of that today or try jello.

Thanks!

Becareful it could be too much milk in his diet that is giving him the diaharria. I know if DS has TOO much he has this problem.

I thought about that, but I can't say he had much more than usual the last few days. Could be the sign of a milk allergy also, but I'll have to wait and see if this goes away or keeps coming back.

I frankly think he picked up some bug at the town pool--we went late last week and now here we are, though who knows?

Re: Diarrhea and Milk?

If he asks for milk I would give him Lactaid from whole milk. It wont bother his stomach and he'll get the taste of and feel of milk.
