Did any of you guys hear this from your level II?
I posted this on the pregnancy board... but don't know how to just put up the link: Hi, First, I have never been so upset before in my entire life!!! Im tring to think positive and know in the end, it's all going to be "fine" and she'll be healthy and perfect! Well, due to my age, the Dr.'s wanted me to do the amnio. I did blood work and the results of that blood work showed that the chance of the baby having DS was 1 in 3000, so we opted not to do the amnio. I'm TERRIFIED of the amino for one reason- the needle could puncture the womb and I *could* loose the pregnancy. I was fine, I feel fine, I don't even feel pregnant (Until I almost fainted on the LIRR this morning, but that's another post)... go to the Dr.'s so excited to see our "Lil D". When the nurse was done, she had the Dr. look at the pictures, came back and said the Dr. wanted to talk to us. This has never happened, so I knew it wasn't fantastic news! Well... they said she has cysts near her brain, but this is common w/ babies and some adults and we all just live with it. 2. Here's where I really loose it.... Since the cord was over her face, they can't tell for sure, but they think she has a clif lip (spelling?) which is totally correctable.. BUT if it's a chomosone issue, that her pallate might not develop and she might have speech issues/problems. This is highly likely, due to my age. has anyone else been told their baby had cysts near the brain, or the lip/pallete issues? I'm going for the amnio on Tues. and they're going to do the 3D to see if they can get a better picture of the lip. They want me to go to a genetics counselor to hear all the options/possibilites! Im trying to think positive, but, it's so hard... all I keep doing is crying!

Re: Did any of you guys hear this from your level II?
I did not have this problem, but I just wanted to say that I have heard of many people who were told that baby had cysts on/near the brain. They will monitor the baby and usually they shrink as the baby grows.
As far as the cleft pallett...I know it's very difficult to "not worry" but with all of the technology that we have now a days, it is not a HUGE deal. I have a friend who has this...and aside from the scar on her lip, you would never know. She had to see language counselors as she was growing up but now is a perfectly fine adult.
I hope everything works out OK

We spoke to a genetic counselor right before the amino and the amino went fine even though I was nervous too. Everything will be fine.

Re: Did any of you guys hear this from your level II?
With both DDs I was told they had cysts on the brain at my level II. I didn't even worry about it b/c I had heard so many cases of them disappearing. At 24 weeks we went back and they went away.
I hope everything turns out ok!

AWE! I just want to send you some hugs Michelle! I have heard of cysts showing up on the baby's brain in the level II and they shrunk to nothing. I hope and pray that this happens for Little D
Try to remain positive!! Your doctors are doing everything to make sure things are okay! It's better to find everything out now, this way you can prepare if God forbid something is wrong!

Re: Did any of you guys hear this from your level II?
First heres a , I had an amnio due to my age too. It was fine. I have heard many many times about cyst near the brain and I havent heard of any of them remaining. As far as the cleft palate, dont worry- it is totally correctable. There are many children who see speech therapist who didnt even have a cleft palate. A tiny scar and all fixed. I know its hard not to worry, but try to remain as calm as possible for the baby. Just remember the cyst they go away and if there is a cleft palate it can be fixed.

Re: Did any of you guys hear this from your level II?
They found cysts on my daughters brain at our ultrasound as well. I did A LOT of research and conferred with my ob/gyn, and it turns out these docs terrify you for virtually no reason at all. There is something like a 1% chance that if they find a cyst, it's correlated to a finding of any kind of defect - those statistics are minimal, at best. I talked at length with my ob/gyn and he confided in me that he believes it's truly a NORMAL part of development, but only recently with the amazing technology that we have, are we able to see it, and that's why so many babies are found with cysts. In many, I think like 90% of the cases, the cysts go away with time. I had a follow-up ultrasound 3 weeks later and the cysts were gone - POOOF. Try not to worry!

Re: Did any of you guys hear this from your level II?
Thank you so much for all your prayers and good wishes!
I guess I was in the midst of having a mini pitty party since all I wanted to do is start my daughter off with the best life possible, and I feel as if I've already failed in that. I've decided that no matter what, the results on Tuesday are going to the be same if I cry my eyes out and worry/stress, or if I keep my wits about me and think positive.
If my little girl has to fight through a surgery or 2, then, she'll just have to be a tough little girl and mommy and daddy will do whatever we can to make it as easy and fixable as possible.
Hopefully, if there is anything wrong, that's the worst of it. (Since they're concerned the cysts might be a flag to other things- Down/ 13/18)
Thanks everyone- I really REALLY appreciate all your posts and thoughts/ prayers!

Re: Did any of you guys hear this from your level II?
I don't know if this will help you, but when I was about 38 weeks pg, I had a sono and they thought my dd had a cleft palate.
I was a wreck... Two days later I went for a more in depth sono, and it turned out that the cord was just in front of her mouth.
I do know 2 people who were born with a cleft palate, had surgery as babies and look fine.
Good Luck
