Did any of you moms go through total natural childbirth?

like, no pain relievers whatsoever?
did anyone think you were crazy?
Did you do any breathing techniques to help?
Would you do it again?

Re: Did any of you moms go through total natural childbirth?

I had an epidural with my son, only because I was in labor for 3 days and I knew that I needed to rest or I wouldn't be able to push. With my daughter I used NOTHING, and I am very proud of that! I breathed through the contractions and just focused on the end result (my beautiful little girl) and I was able to get through it! I won't use anything with the next one either, especially after seeing how alert and calm my daughter was after she was born! IMO, epidurals are too risky, some of my friends have had bad experiences with them.

Lamaze often does not help women get thru labor without pain medication. Bradley and Hypnobirthing are better known for it. You should really research your birthing choices and discuss your ideas with your OB. Many are not very supportive of non-medicated births. Also, you will want to learn perinal massage to help you avoid an epositomy. I have had friends who were able to do use that and not have more than one single stitch.
Also, consider using a Doula. Women with doula support have a very small use of medication and less risk of a c/s.
Also, millions of women have had unmedicated births and continue to around the World. There is nothing wrong with using medication but there are benefits to not using it too.

Re: Did any of you moms go through total natural childbirth?

I was refusing drugs...for the 1st 72 hours...since I was only 25 weeks preggo; I felt that it was important to be able to feel James move. Even with the infection getting worse by the hour I still refused any pain meds....when James' heart rate dropped I was rushed in for an emergency section and needed the drugs at that point. My doc commended me...he told me that with the amount of pain I must have been in between the infection and the labor I could have easlisy given birth naturally if there wasn't the life and death factor at hand for me and my baby.
but honestly...if it wasn't such a scary delivery...I would have asked for the drugs...but then again maybe I could have managed it with out the infection.
If i ever have another baby and if the oppurtunity to have a vaginal birth is there...then I will keep and open mind about the drugs...Ill make up my mind when the time comes...and not before hand.

I went au natural with Ava but not by choice - I was begging for the epidural. I progressed rather quickly and the doctor wasn't there yet when I was ready to push so I had to do the lamaze breathing to hold off until he got there.

Because I went so quickly it wasn't too bad but I think another 15 minutes of that pain I wouldn't have been able to handle it w/o meds.

A woman's body is amazing and yes you can give birth w/o drugs - its really up to you and your threshold for pain.

I made it 24 hours in labor without it but I still had awhile to go and was really tired from being up 24 straight hours and wanted to rest
So I decided to have an epidural.

I had both my children without medication and I have to say it was painful but worth it in the end. I felt great after giving birth that friends and family couldnt believe I had just given birth. I took lamaze class and didnt have a midwife but my labor nurse helped me through and I just tried to breathe evenly and get through the rough times. I had my first in 7 hours and my second child in 3 hours of getting to the hospital but mostly labored at home.
