Did any SAHMs ASK to be laid off? Were you able to collect unemployment?
I've been back to work for a little over a month and I miss DS so much. I think I want to ask to be laid off next year.
Any SAHMs ask to be laid off?
Were you able to collect unemployment?

sort of, I was 8 mos pregnant and I knew I wanted to work from home, I had gotten a new manager that I hated and basically he knew I wanted to work from home a few days a week which my old manager had allowed me to...so basically I stuck it out and got laid off at 8 mos pregnant and am collecting unemployment yes...

nope, which honestly wasn't a big deal disability was much less than what I was collecting in unemployment, but you can't collect both

I didn't ask to be let go, but I was let go when I was 9 months pregnant as well. I got unemployment until DS was 5 months old.
I am now laid off again, and on unemployment again.
Honestly, in this economy, IMO, I would stay in your job if at all possible

I agree. No offense, but this is not what "unemployment" is meant for. I understand your point of view, but quite frankly I hate when I hear stories like this. Its taking advantage of the system.

you pay into unemployment insurance when you get a paycheck, so if you are laid off you are owed that, to be asked to be laid off is another question, but if you pay for it and do get laid off you should get it....no matter how you get laid off, your entitled to it...

If your company is laying off anyway, I would ask, it will save someone else's job and you will get what you want!

I believe if you are asked to be laid off then you would not be able to collect, unless of course you have a nice boss who would not fight it.
But once you try to get unemployment, they send notice to your previous employer, which could in turn say that you were laid off because you asked to be, which i believe could be considered quitting voiding unemployment eligibility.

It does unless you have a particular case. I had someone quit & claim unemployment because she moved 1.5 hours away from her job. My commute is the same. My company never disputes unemployment though.
Your employer can also let you quit, say they are not going to dispute & dispute anyway which would leave you out of luck. Make very sure you know your company well if you plan on doing this.

Re: Did any SAHMs ASK to be laid off? Were you able to collect unemployment?
The law is very specific that a person who collects unemployment must be ready, willing and able to work. Voluntariliy leaving the workforce is not grounds to receive unemployment. Whether a specific employer "lets it slide" is another story.
For most, but not all, types of disability benefits a person has to be totally unable to work. Disability and unemployment really should not go hand in hand.
We do pay for these benefits but we pay to get them at times for which we legitimately qualify.
Sorry to sound harsh. I do not mean to but I hear questions like this very often and I like to be direct in answering.
