Re: Did anyone buy a home

i would think that means they had an illegal apartment in the house. you would have to check to see if they got COs for the second kitchen and either take out the second kitchen or get them to obtain a CO.

Re: Did anyone buy a home

as long as the "second" kitchen doesn't have a stove you may be good without a CO...

but I am NOT an expert.

Re: Did anyone buy a home

yes a "summer" kitchen (no stove) is ok. Some mortgage companies want co and some dont- it depends.

Re: Did anyone buy a home

We have a single family home with a 2nd kitchen, stove & all. No one even addressed the topic. We agreed on a price, got an appraisal, brought in the engineer and closed.

Our house is like this. The old owners had to remove the stove, but we have a refridgerator and sink in the basement.

Re: Did anyone buy a home

Our house was laid out as a two family house. Apartment upstairs, and another downstairs. Full (galley) kitchen on each floor. We didn't have any problems buying it as a single house. I'm not sure if it was a legal two-family, but inspectors, bank, appraisers, etc didn't have any problems. Actually, the only people who gave us a problem was Cablevision. They cut the wires to the 2nd floor, because they said if we had two kitchens, it was a two family house, so we would need two separate connections. Needless to say, the day after he left, I rewired it, then moved to satellite soon after... Chat Icon

The same thing with us... We thought that we would have to take out the stove to get everything done.. and nothing.. noone said a word about it.
