Did anyone get steroid injections prior to delivery?
I saw my perinatologist today and she wants me to take 2 steroid injections prophylactically since I have several risk factors making me high risk to deliver before 34 weeks, (I'm 31 weeks now.) She said there is no down side to tkaing the shots, the will go directly to the babies and help mature their lungs quicker. Has anyone heard of this or received them?

I have heard of this, because it is to help the babies lungs to develop.

Re: Did anyone get steroid injections prior to delivery?
I had the steriod shots early on, I think it was at around 23-24 weeks. I went into premature labor starting at 22 weeks and they thought I was going to deliver way to early, so they gave them to me just incase it happend so that they would atleast have more developed lungs and have a better chance. Well...I made it to 36 weeks and my babies were fine. You won't feel any kind of side effects.

My friend went into labor at 29.5 weeks and they gave her steroids but her water broke at 6AM and she had the girls at 5:30 PM-so I'm not sure how much the steroids were able to affect them. They are both home now-no problems and doing GREAT!

Re: Did anyone get steroid injections prior to delivery?
we talked about this with our perinatologist. One thing we learned was that the steriod injection does not help if given after 43 weeks (just letting you know you DO have a deadline to your decision). It does seem to be a pretty standard thing these days though.
