If so, how was your experience. TIA

I've never heard of this. I don't know how I would feel about that though-with everything else going on I think it would annoy me.

No, it never even entered my mind. My hospital didn't even allow video cameras, so I can't imagine that they'd let you bring in a professional photographer.

No and I wouldn't even think of doing that either.

Not sure if many hospitals would even allow it

The hospital had a photographer but I'm not sure that's what you mean?

Our hospital has a professional photographer on staff that takes pictures of the babies.

I mean more like one person to come in and photograph before delivery, and after (for me since it would be a c), etc. I don't see why they wouldn't allow it I could just say they are my friend

I've never heard of it. I can't image wanting a stack of pictures of MYSELF before or after labor... not really the prettiest sight.

I was ONLY allowed to have DH in recovery after my c-section even though my whole family was there. They were not allowed in even if DH left. The hospital was pretty strict about that.
They gave me no problem with visitors before delivery. I had them all in the L & D room before I was prepped for surgery.

Re: Did anyone have a professional photographer come to the hospital...
Not me. I was in denial that I was even in labor - I didn't bring a camera.
My mom took photos of my sister in labor (at her request) and my other sister had her husband take photos during her c-section - which included her instestines out of her body.
My SIL asked me to take photos of her labor & her son, which I did.
I can't imagine hiring someone whose sole purpose was to document the event. Somehow it seems different if they are there for moral support & being asked to take photos.

I've only seen it done for bereavement photos of premature babies and still borns (some of the most heartwrenching photography you'll ever see, btw). But that means they do let photographers in, I suppose.

That's the ones I did. Definitely heartwrenching & something you'd never forget. I can't imagine doing that as a living.

Re: Did anyone have a professional photographer come to the hospital...
I don't think they'd allow it.
At St. Catherine's you are only allowed 2 people in the room with you - which was DH and my mom. They are EXTREMELY strict about it also. My dad came in after the kids were born and they actually asked either my mom or DH to leave the room.
The hospital rooms themselves don't lend themselves to a "professional" atmosphere. There are 3 girls in a room and its pretty tight quarters. With nurses running in and out all day, doctors checking in on you, the cleaning staff and visitors in general just make it too hectic.

Re: Did anyone have a professional photographer come to the hospital...
Thanks everyone. I def know I want to have it done if possible. I wish I did with Andrew. I am a huge photgraphy nut so this is very important to me. I guess I will look into further when it is time.
ETA: I was allowed about 4 people in with me when I had my c-section so I guess every hospital is different. And when I got into the room, I was allowed as many as I wanted.
I would not be having a vaginal birth.

Let me tell you this is what is stressing me out. No one else in my family takes pictures of any kind. It is always me. Oh, the things I worry about

Re: Did anyone have a professional photographer come to the hospital...
My sister's friend is a photojournalist. She was asked to be the godmother of another friends DD. She has taken pics from the labor room and through the little girls first year. (she's almost 2 now I think) and presented an album to the mom as a keepsake. My sister has emailed me some of the photos and it truly is beautiful.
I can totally see why you'd want to do this.

Re: Did anyone have a professional photographer come to the hospital...
I hear ya - I freak out every time I hand my camera off to my husband although considering he was the one who took the pics after the deliveries they aren't too bad.......they are by no means amazing but he did take one or two that I really love. And honestly, its better than having nothing.
I will admit it was extremely hard for me to let my hubby do the picture taking but in the end he was happy to do it and quite proud of himself. The nurses took a few as well. I thought it was pretty funny watching him so I have that "memory".
I would probably let your husband handle it with strict instruction by you Then you just blame your mood on the drugs
Worse comes to worse - we'll hold a picture taking seminar for your family
