In due time. No pun intended.

did anyone have a sonogram REALLY early?

I had a sonogram the day I got my BFP, which was either the day AF was due or the day before. The Dr. warned me that he would probably not see any signs of pregnancy yet, but there was a chance. He was looking more to confirm that I ovulated and to see the uterine lining. He didn't see any signs of pregnancy in my uterus yet. He said this could be simply b/c it was way too early, but could also be b/c the pregnancy is outside the uterus (ectopic).

I was not concerned at the time, but why oh why did I go look this up online? Other people online have said that as early as 4 weeks, they could see the gestational sac. However, maybe those people were at 4 weeks and a few days. I was truly just at 4 weeks. I also read that the baby itself is about .4 inches....or was that .04?....I need to stop looking things up online.

The truth is that I am not so worried right this minute, but this issue kept me up last night. I do not want to be sitting in bed again tonight wondering about this!

What would you expect to see at a 4 week sono done on the day AF was due? By the way, the pregnancy was confirmed with 2 blood tests, levels are great.

I've heard of people having them to check for ovulation. I wouldn't worry. We are all worriers, especially in the first trimester. Chat Icon

Don't worry, I had mine at 5 weeks and couldn't see anything but a little dot. The sac wasn't visible yet...but they assured me that was it.

6 weeks and 2 days and I saw a heartbeat.

Don't worry. That seems very early!

I went through IVF and was thus monitored very closely, very early on. I think I received about four sonos before most girls even have their first OB appt.

After I received my BFP, from their blood tests, I asked when I should come back to the RE's office for a sono and they said not until at least 4.5 weeks after the procedure because by then you really can only see the sacs.

Week 5-6 you can sometimes see a tiny fetus in the sac.

It takes until week 6-7 (usually) to see the heartbeat (flickering light).

Do not worry. What the doctor saw, for that stage is entirely normalChat Icon Chat Icon

I also had one at 5 weeks and all that was there was a sac and yolk. It was too early. Ten days later I went back and saw the baby and the heartbeat. Chat Icon

Re: did anyone have a sonogram REALLY early?

I had a 4 week sono and all he saw was the tinyest little black dot on the screen which he said was the beginnings of something going on in there.

But on my 9th week I was moved up a week to my 10th, so that could mean that my 4 week sono was really my 5th week sono.

Either way, I think its very possible they saw nothing at 4 weeks. I wouldn't worry about an ectopic just yet.

Re: did anyone have a sonogram REALLY early?

I did at 6 weeks the first time I was pg because I was spotting. We saw only the sac.

This time, my RE did bloodwork twice, but NO sono until 8 weeks, at which point we could see the sac and the heartbeat.

What will be, will be, and going too early can just upset you...

Honestly my Dr told me that early on one day can make a difference.

Re: did anyone have a sonogram REALLY early?

I think its way too early. My first sono was 5 weeks 1 day and we saw the sac and the start of a fetal pole.

I would give it at least a week to 10 days.

YOur Dr. shouldnt have scared you about an etopic. Its rare to see anything at 4 weeks.
