Did anyone have any difficulty with introducing applesauce?

DD just started solids a few weeks ago. We did the rice cereal and oatmeal with no problems at all. As per my ped's recommendations we moved onto applesauce. That night she started grunting while BF'ing and continued to do it for the next two days (she was still pooping so I didn't think anything of it) Well the last time she pooped was on Christmas day and has been crying, grunting etc like she was constipated so I stopped with the applesauce the day after christmas figuring it must be the problem. She finally went again this morning so I guess it was the applesauce? Has anyone else had this problem?

Apples can give babies gas but I didn't think it would constipate them. It usually works to make them go. If anything I think it was the rice that wasn't letting her go.

I usually give DD applesauce if she hasn't pooped and it works right away. Sometimes the rice can be binding though

Apples are binding, i.e. the BRAT diet, so I would think the applesauce is causing the constipation.

Applesauce was the first fruit we tried. Dd was up screaming at bed time the tow nights we tried it. I stopped the applesauce and moved onto about four other friuts before i went back to it about a month later. She was fine with it at that point.
