Did anyone have general anesthesia during c-section?
I have to be put under general anesthesia and I am already freaking out. I heard DH can't be in the room and recovery is soo much worse. I am also freaking out about a breathing tube. I have had an awful experience with one before. Sometimes I cry I am so upset!!
I am so scared and only 14 weeks along

Re: Did anyone have general anesthesia during c-section?
Awwwww... I didn't have this done, but I just wantd to tell you that before I had my c-section I was the BIGGEST wimp when it came to needles and anything that had to do with blood. I used to pass out and go into little convulsions because I would stress myself out to oblivion. But, when the day of delivery came, that was all out the window, it really was, which is amazing considering I had a c-section. I promise that when you're in labor, that's truly the last thing you'll be thinking about

I wasn't but that was definitely a fear of mine because I was having all natural childbirth and if need came for an emergency c-section I would have had to have been put under.
Are there no other options besides this?

Breathing tube? Why would they have to do that? I went under when I had my hernia operation, I got the nose oxygen...

Re: Did anyone have general anesthesia during c-section?
Why do you need general? That is actually VERY odd to do during a c/s. Do you have a special condition that would require this? You may want to get a 2nd opinion on this as well.
You may want to discuss this with your doctor but maybe a nurse can take photos of your child as soon as he/she is born for you. Also request that your husband be allowed to HOLD your baby before he/she is taking to the nursery.
Editted to post: Of course you are upset and crying. They are asking you to miss something very important and surgery is scary stuff. That is why I think you may want to discuss this with another doctor and get another opinion.

Re: Did anyone have general anesthesia during c-section?
I have to get general because I have rods in my back and they go to far down my back for an epidoral. My only other option is general. I had known this since I had back surgery when I was 13 but it never really hit me until now
That would be great if I didn't have to get a breathing tube. I just thought when they put you under you had to get one so you don't choke.
That's a great idea about asking them to take a pic. Thanks

Re: Did anyone have general anesthesia during c-section?
My girlfriend had to be put out when she had her c-section. There was a reason, something to do with the medication she was on but I forgot why. But her husband was allowed in the room. He took pictures of EVERYTHING, I mean EVERYTHING. I don't know why your husband can't be in the room. I would definitely look into that!!! There is no reason why he can't be there. The surgery is the same no matter awake or asleep. I completely understand your fear and heartache.

I don't know if you would consider this but is natural childbirth an option for you? No drugs at all. Its very doable if you plan for it.
