Did anyone have to stop BF for a period of time and then started again successfully?
I may stop BF for a week. I have an infection and a high fever and have to take antibiotics Although they say the antibiotics are fine I'm not convinced...I'm thinking of formula feeding for a week and pumping to maintain my supply and then returning to BF - even if it means I have to pump and give him bottles since I'm not sure if he will latch on again. Up until this point he has had no formula - he is two weeks old.
Any advice you might have would be greatly appreciated...this is very hard for me for some reason

My SIL just went through this...her baby had blood in her stool and she went to soy formula for 2 weeks and pumped within that time. When the blood went away, she reintroduced breastmilk BUT she went to only bottles...her DD didn't go back to the breast easily, she preferred the bottles. Just offering my one experience..
I know this is hard for you, especially if you've been only breastfeeding but mastitis is miserable..I've seen too many friends get it over and over again..they actually did breastfeed through it while on antibiotics, but I know you don't want that...
Good luck to you!!
edited to add....don't be scared of offering some formula! It is very healthy, my son is living proof.

You can totally pump for a week than go back to feeding from the breast. Do what you are comfy with.
I did it when DD's ripped apart my nips prob about the same time that you are suffering from mastistis. I had mastistis so i know how awful you feel, i did bf on it, not much of the meds get into your milk.
My DD did give me a bit of a hard time going back to the breast, you just have to work a bit more to have her go back and try to really calm and patient.
But after that I BF her solely from the breast til i weaned her, I HATED pumping, it made me feel like a cow.
Feel better soon

Thank you ladies. I still haven't decided what to do. This decision is so hard. WHY DO I FEEL SO GUILTY about stopping BF just for a week...Why do i feel likke giving him formula is the worst thing in the world when soooooo many babies are formula fed? Is this my hormones or have I officially gone crazy from lack of sleep

Trust me when I say it is NOT the worst thing in the world. The reason you feel that way is because of the overwhelming pressure the medical community has put on moms to breastfeed...no one is denying it's great....but seriously, formula for a week is NUTRITION and a perfectly great substitute.
Most of us on these boards were formula fed 100%!! I think we're all doing just fine
It's your hormones and wanting to do what is best for your baby, and that is perfectly normal. Just don't beat yourself up, everything will be fine!! I promise! And i don't make promises often, lol!
