About 20 years ago someone was killed by a sniper at a diner on that same part of Jericho Tpke.
I haven't been down that way in a while, so I'm not sure if it's the same building. It was the first thing I thought of when I heard the news story on the radio.
(I'm so old; anyone else remember that?)

nope, it's not the same building - but it's right next door. That shooting 15 years ago was the sniper...remember, he was shooting all across suffolk? someone was shot in a burger king in lake grove, and a few other places. It was solved...
"In a written confession, Peter Sylvester, 24, said the shootings were intended to cover up the murder of a topless dancer he planned to commit in order to impress another stripper at a Smithtown club."

Not what I'm saying at all. I happen to be an attorney. However, I too know some people who have some insight into this matter (some of whom are members of the Suffolk Bar) and the consensus seems to be business deal gone bad. Obviously a business deal gone bad is not "good" cause for homicide/murder, I was using the term "good" to show that the scuttlebut is he had some involvement and this apparently was not a random act.
Regardless, his family remains in my thoughts and prayers.

Oh, I agree that it sounds like he knew someone who was involved in his murder. It may have been personal or business. I was just trying to point out that we don't know whose fault it was that something went bad. As you said, even if the victim was at fault, killing him was not justified. I thought you were jumping to the idea that if an attorney is involved in a business deal gone bad, he must have been in the wrong. People sometimes say things like that, unfortunately.
