Did anyone here have IBS prior to becoming pregnant??
First off congrats to all, I hope to be with you soon!!
Has anyone had IBS prior to becoming pregnant?? If so, have things gotten better or worse, stayed the same??
Thanks!! I am sooo worried about this (which in turn the worrying is what causes this, its a no win situation!!)

Re: Did anyone here have IBS prior to becoming pregnant??
I have that too with Gastroparesis. I want to be a ray of hope and sunshine but mine is actually worse. However my doc is taking me off Zofran and putting me on Reglan in order to combat more than one issue. I read that Reglan can help with IBS since it works on the nervous system.
Hang in there! And please dont be scared to TTC! They know how to deal with patients like us!

I have this, feel free to fm me if you have any questions. Mine pretty much got worse but I have been able to get through the pregnancy without vomiting so far, if that helps.

Re: Did anyone here have IBS prior to becoming pregnant??
I have IBS-C and w/the pregnancy so far it hasn't been any worse...pretty much the same, I don't go! I've been taking colace every day and that seems to help a little. Plus, I've been drinking a lot more water and no alcohol so that might be helping as well.
I'm not sure if your IBS-C or D, but I'd imagine constipation would be more of a problem w/being preggo. If your D, perhaps the pregnancy will help.

Does colace have to be swallowed? Or can it come in suppository form

I had IBS - and I have to say, after the 1st trimester, I haven't had any problems at all - I feel the best I've ever felt....

I used to be IBS-D but over the last two years, it switched to C. I've only been pregnant for a short while but so far, it hasn't changed anything. I drink plum juice in the morning and it helps me alot. Or I eat a pear. Good luck and don't worry!

Re: Did anyone here have IBS prior to becoming pregnant??
My docs have often suggested that my problems might be IBS, but I've never taken drugs to combat it. Since getting pregnant my digestive system is working much better than usual -- its still not perfect (and hey, going 3 times a day isn't exactly a walk through the park ), but at least I'm not constipated!

Re: Did anyone here have IBS prior to becoming pregnant??
Thank you girls so much. It definitely won't deter me from TTC, nothing could do that, but I just wanted to know what I was in for. Maybe pregnancy will be magical for me and rid me of this!!!

Re: Did anyone here have IBS prior to becoming pregnant??
I'm pretty newly pregnant but I have IBS and severe reflux and both have been very well under control. I had gone of medication in August and have been carefully controlling it through diet so I think that's helped. And as someone else said no caffeine and alcohol definitely helps too.

Same here! I was never officially diagnosed with IBS, but lets say I could never eat out without having to use the bathroom before leaving It totally has gotten 100% since being pregnant 2x. I think being pregnant slows down the digestive tract and it really helped in my case.

I had alternative IBS prior to becoming PG. I actually have been better since I have been PG. I thought it would have been really bad but not at all. I am about 21 wks now.

Re: Did anyone here have IBS prior to becoming pregnant??
I was diagnosed about 12 years ago with IBS, I never took meds for it, i controlled it with diet. I had it both ways.
With my pg's i wound up with gasterentieritis (sp), and my ulcers act up, my IBS though is controlled through Mylanta and Colace.
What gets me sometimes is the gas pains, since everything gets squished down there further along you get. But I do know my food triggers, so avoid them whenever possible.

I agree with the food triggers. I have had it since I was a teenager. I learned my lessons. Food is a HUGE factor.

I was diagnosed at 18 years old. I kept a food diary for about 6 months, wrote down everything i ate and how i felt afterwards, emotional things etc. Once you see things on paper repeating themselves you know!
I am so stubborn though, every once i awhile I eat what i want and suffer the consequences!

I can't be good all the time either... But I know my limit.
