Did anyone marry a guy/girl who claimed
they would "never" get married? What made him/her come around? Time, maturity, ultimatum?
They were talking about it on the radio this morning and it got me wondering...there's probably alot of people who have.

no, the guy i'm marrying was ready to get married at 23. he'll be 26 when we get married, but i know plenty of guys way older then him that claim they are "not ready."

Not me, but my best friend SWORE he would never get married.
He started dating his GF, and over the last year, "never" became "maybe".
The weekend of November 12th, "maybe" became a proposal!
I'm so excited for them!

My DH - he said that he always said that he would never get married - his family confirmed what he said.
He said that the day he met me - that all changed 
I don't know what I did

Dh used to tell me all the time he wasn't sure if had ever wanted to get married, we were together for 6years before we got married...he came around though

Yes my husband and I dated for 4 years and then broke up because he didn't want to get married. We broke up for 5 months and he called me one night and the rest is history.

I could have written this word for word
But I also always said that I was NEVER going to get married (though I did want to, I'd been burned sooo many times) I merely figured I was running out of time and was never going to meet a quality man
DH in general was just a non-marrying type of guy. He told EVERYONE this - his friends, family, even exgirlfriends. He wasn't a committment phobe at all, he believed in marriage, was not against it.. he had quite a few long term relationshps for that matter. He just never felt like he'd met a person he could envision spending his LIFE with, and could not particularly see himself married until that happened.
That is, until me (and I still don't know what I did to sway him either ) The even more shocking part of me and my DH is that it all happened soooo quickly, within months we were talking marriage. We moved in together after 4 months, got engaged after 6 months, and married only about 1 year after we'd met 
I still think that my MIL is shocked at all this - she said until we walked down the aisle and she saw that ring on her son's finger, she would have never truly believed the day would come

Not DH but it was I who never thought I get married. There is A LOT of divorce in my family and a lot of my friends who seemed to have happy home lives when we were growing up (not divorced parents) had even more screwed up families I found out.
I definetley wanted a significant other, but i really did not believe that marriage was necessary and would of been fine to be an "Oprah and Stedman" couple. However, after meeting DH I slowly came around. We had to move in together and buy something together before i could even think of getting married....which we did. We lived together well over a year before he proposed.
However, if i did not meet my DH, i highly doubt i would be married today. Maybe in a relationship, but too many people go into marriage without thinking about what a marriage takes. I unfortunely learned the hard way growing up around divorce and unhappiness....so i knew what I needed before being willing to committ a lifetime to someone.

Not me or DH, but my ex-boyfriend always claimed he would never get married. He told that to all his girlfriends before me, too. Of course, me and his family just thought that he hadn't met the right one yet, and that I was it. However after a few years, he told me he loved me and wanted us to stay together, but didn't want to get married, so I broke up with him. Well, that was 5 years ago, he's had several girlfriends since then, he's now almost 39, and STILL not married or engaged!

I didn't but my friend dated one of those guys (she is an abuse junkie IMO)
Well they broke up and the next girl he dated he got very serious over (but she broke it off)
And that following girl he married
I think it took him losing someone he really cared for to stop him from being such a d!ck to woman.
Unfortunately for my friend, she got treated like a doormat

I said the same thing after i signed my annulment papers...... soon after that i met wonderful guy who I am serious.. keeping options open but I am SCARED...................

A few months before we met Dh did a paper for school on priorities...
Find a girl to marry, propose, get married and procreate a son was all set to happen in 2009-2011.
We met in 2000
Engaged and Married in 2002
Pregnant in 2004
Gave birth to my son in 2005
I guess I knocked his socks off and made him want to settle down :) Haha no wonder my MIL is still in shock and says I put my "hooks" into him..lol
The real funny part is he was still dating his HS/early college girlfriend when he filled it out and still till this day she figured she would have been marrying him in 2002... well sweetie... he set the 2009-2011 goal when he was dating you guess she never saw the paper:)
