Did anyone need a permit for central air?
Did you need a permit (with a fee of course ) from your town to install a central air system in your house? It seems like our town wants one with plans for the ductwork (cant be hand drawn either ) Im just curious if this is the norm elsewhere or unusual. TIA

It think it's just your town! Are they "special"? We have CAC, but it was installed long before we moved in... I'm almost positive there is no permit required.

Yes, TOB requires a permit. With a survey to show where the condenser unit will be on the property and setbacks and such. We just had our central AC installed a few weeks ago. We used the same ducts we had in place for the heating, so we didn't really need that type of layout. It was a nominal fee, like $30 and the contractor applies for it.
Let me know if you have any other questions, I may still have a spare permit paper around to give you all the info.
Liz, here is the permit application we had to sign as the owner and have notarized and then our installer went to town, so to speak, and took care of the rest.

Re: Did anyone need a permit for central air?
My friend lived in Farmingdale and she needed a variance for her outside unit because the town claims it was too close to her neighbor's property line. I've never heard of a permit for the ductwork
Does local gov't sit up nights concocting ways to charge us extra fees?

I'm in town of Islip, which is supposed to be really tough, and we didn't need a permit. We had a gas conversion done at the same time as having the CAC installed, so it's not like they were not aware of it - the condensor is also right beside our gas meter.
