Did anyone see the huge fire in Bethpage tonight?
We were heading to the verizon store in Hicksville and saw major major black smoke. Quite a few fire engines passed us.
When we turned onto 107 it was jam packed. There was a big fire right behind the LIRR buildings in the old grumman area.
We literally sat in park on the road for 45 minutes because they had the whole intersection closed. Eventually police on foot told everyone to turn around on the grass and drive back the other way, going the wrong way on the street and then the directed us at he traffic light.
We dont' know what happened but we saw the flames and they were huge. We put on news 12 when we got home but didn't see anything.

Railroad ties (is that the right word?) were on fire behind a building.

Funny, I left work and my friend and I were talking about the smoky smell and how fall-like it was. Then I got in the car and was driving north on 107, saw the smoke in my rearview and called to tell him that apparently it was not a firepit, but a full blown fire.
Thankfully it was only railroad ties.

I saw the smoke when I was leaving Target in Levittown. I told my DH that something was happening in Bethpage.
