did anyone skip meats? (babyfood)

DS is moving onto stage 2 foods, but i am having a hard time with the idea of the pureed meats (i would not eat it, and i would not want to feed my DS something i wouldn't eat myself).

can i skip the meats? is there an alternative?

and no, i am not interested in pureeing the meats myself Chat Icon

I'm sure you can skip it if you wanted to.

I was ok with giving meats (I gave the dinners, meats w/veggies, never meats alone); I used Earth's Best, so it was all organic meat, so I was comfortable with it.

I never gave meats. My ped was fine with it. I made 90% of DS' baby food, so when I thought he was ready to eat meat I just made TINY pieces of boiled chicken.

We are raising Alex as a vegetarian (though we eat fish and so does she), so we never gave her meats, and she's ridiculously healthy.

did you substitute anything for the meats to make sure she got enough protein?

Re: did anyone skip meats? (babyfood)

We consulted with our pediatrician and a pediatric nutritionist - they assured us that, for the 1st year, they receive all their nutrition from breastmilk/formula. The reason why we feed our babies babyfood is to get them used to the texture and the taste, but it isn't essential for the first year, nutritionally. So for the first year, no.

When she got a little older and we started introducting table foods, yes, I was and still am keenly aware of what I'm feeding her and make sure she gets protein with two meals, whether it be through substitutes, beans, dairy, tofu, etc.

DS had them for awhile--he couldn't handle chunks of meat at all around 9 months when we started giving him meat. And I didn't like the jars until I pureed my own beef and saw how gross it looked--same as in the jar basically.

You can mix the pureed meat with veggies or buy the dinners with meat and veggies already mixed. Or if your child can handle small chunks or meatballs, try those.

I didn't give dd any of the meats either. I tried but she wasn't a fan of them so I just stuck to the veggies and fruit.
