Did anyone's ped tell them NOT to start food at 4 months?
Our ped still said no to even cereal. I am wondering if this is odd? TIA

There is a lot of debate on the topic. There really is no reason to start food at 4 months unless they need it for another reason such as reflex.

My doctor said we could start at 4 months if we wanted to, but she suggested waiting until 6 months if we could.
So we waited until close to 6 months.

Same here. Just had our 4 month well visit today and this is what she told us. We are going to hold off.

My PED suggested 6 months, we started a littel after 5 months.

our ped told us we shouldstart rice cereal,I gave it to R for few days and she was in pain and couldn't poop, 2 days ago I gave her oatmeal, and the same thing happened (not the poop part) so I decided to wait till she is 5 1/2 or 6 months old. I figured there is no need to give her solids at 4 mo if she is gaining weight and eating well.

our ped encourages food at 4 mths. i started DD on cereal and fruit at that point and I don't regret it. DD was completely off baby food by 9 mths. It made life a lot easier.

Our pediatrician said no foods at all, not even cereal until 6 months. He said that there is research showing that early exposure to foods is associated with food allergies. We waited until 6 months.

We just had the nurse out today and she told us not to start until 6 months...so DD will not be getting pablum (sp?) or baby foods until then...

from what i've read, it's that their gut doesn't close until somewhere btwn 4-6 months so they err on the side of caution with six months. my son will be 10 wks tom'w and i plan on waiting till he's six months as well

DD is having cereal and she is 5mths (3 adj) and is doing fine. Hed ped said itws more for coordination, she is keeping up to par somewhat with the full termers and she didnt want her to regress sowe are basically doing it on schedule I guess. She hasnt had any issues pooping-infact shes like a doggone duck

I actually asked DD dr. about this because I thought the formula just wasn't enough but she told me that if you start solids too soon it could cause allergic reactions to certain foods when DC is older.
