Did (or do) you have a baby nurse?

When my sister and I were born, my mom had one. It just seems now a days that people don't do that anymore. What do you think?

I think that having a night nurse would be amazing. During the day I'd rather have family help if available.

All my friends that have recently given birth have them. Generally they stay with you 24hours/day for the first two weeks - month. I think its great. It gives mom time to recover from birth and makes the transition to being a mom less difficult. I plan to have one - if I can afford it because from what I hear they are VERY expensive!

Ihad one with my first. She was old for a nurse but great. She was with me almost two weeks. Normally they are very expenive but this one was private so she was alittle cheaper. Having a baby nurse especially for a first time mom is great not only can you sleep she will teach you everything you need to take care of the baby. They even do the baby's laundry. I highly recommend one to anyone if you dont mind someone in your house.

I am not havingone this time only because I am having the baby right at winter break and DH will be home ( we are both teachers) and my parents will be in from Florida

Thank you all for the responses! I didn't realize they are so expensive Chat Icon I guess this is something else DH and I are going to have to budget for once the baby comes! My parents and ILs are both about 45 minutes away. I know my mom and MIL are going to want to come by to help out but I don't think I am going to want them to stay over Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think that you should not go through an agency and you should get a good referral from a friend or someone you trust and interview them before to make sure they match what you are looking for. It is also cheaper this way as you dont have to kick back money to an agency. We paid 150 a day and she did laundry for the baby, kept the room tidy, taught me what to do, how to care for her, bathed her with me, fed her and helped handle the nights.... It was great and I would def use one for number 2.
