Did they change the name of the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway????
It's coming up on a search as the Ralph Manino Expressway!!

Hmm...very weird. I was doing a search for 7-11s (don't ask ) and it had 135 down under that name.
I got scared! Everything is changing!

Yeah, it's the Ralph J. Marino Expressway. Just like the Meadowbrook Parkway is the Norman Levi Parkway. Just a dedicated name.
I use Rt. 135. Just because it does not start or end in Oyster Bay or Seaford!

They do actually...at least I always have.
And it was supposed to end in Oyster Bay (it starts in Seaford). They were going to originally use it to connect to Connecticut via the bridge that was going to be built over LI Sound.
Geez, I am full of useless information aren't I!

There's a company now actually proposing to extend it and build a tunnel to CT- so that it ends where it was supposed to.

Yeah, isn't the welcome to Seaford sign right there? (on Merrick) I thought they changed it to the Seaford- Syosett Expressway when the Open was in Bethpage, to ease confusion for out of towners.

Hmmm, I thought it was actually in Wantagh, but it could be Seaford...
I realize it doesn't end in Oyster Bay because I live up there. It would be nice if it did!

From the Historical overview on www.nycroads.com (a great site for nerds like me who love useless info):
When it was first built, NY 135 was known as the "Wantagh-Oyster Bay Expressway." In 1967, its name was changed to the "Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway" not only to avoid confusion with the parallel Wantagh State Parkway just two miles to the west, but also upon the suggestion of residents to raise the profile of Seaford. Decades later, there were aborted attempts to rename the expressway after Theodore Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan.
On March 21, 2002, the highway was ceremonially named the "Ralph Marino Expressway" in honor of the longtime state senator. The renaming of the expressway for Marino seems somewhat ironic given his opposition to an extension of the expressway to Oyster Bay and the Oyster Bay-Rye Bridge. Marino died two weeks after the renaming ceremony.
