Re: Did Walmart stop selling fabrics?
Lancaster Co. Ephrata Wal-Mart still sells fabric, but I just read where Wal-Mart got rid of a lot of products. Perhaps, this was an item in your area, that they got rid of? I think since we have a lot of Mennonite folks in this area, who buy fabric, they might have decided to keep it. I also wrote to Wal-Mart, re: what I like/dislike, and heard back today. Mary
The following is the page I used to write to Wal-Mart.

Re: Did Walmart stop selling fabrics?
I've heard that a lot of Walamrts were getting rid of the fabric. They weren't selling enough to justify having to pay someone to work in just that dept cutting the fabric.
Did you go to Joann's on Old Country Road in Westbury? They have a lot and the ladies who work there are very nice.

Thanks! Yes, I know where Joahnn's store is. I was just at Walmart and passed by the old fabric section and it was gone.

Wow, I didn't know they got rid of it... haven't been in Walmart since before the holidays.
I second the rec for Joann's in Westbury though... nice selection, coupons you can print out, and helpful people. Love that store.

Re: Did Walmart stop selling fabrics?
The ones by me stopped selling fabrics early last year. Stinks because they had a lot of good stuff cheap. If you are looking for fabric a little bit cheaper than Joanne's, there is a place on Jericho Tpke in Commack. I was there a while ago and they had a lot of the same fabrics Wal-mart had at the time. I think, but am not sure, that everything is between 1-3 per yard.

Re: Did Walmart stop selling fabrics?
My company is a fabric vendor and Walmart has no clue as to what they are doing. One week they are in, one week fabric is out.
Orginally they stopped b/c it costs too much to pay a human to cut fabric so they started phasing to precut fabrics. Many areas still have it but soon most of the stores on LI will not have it. Not enough people in this area sew.
It's too bad really. Now the women who worked in fabrics and know how to sew, assist customers are moved to gardening or some other dept.
One of my stores in Tn. who I saw this week orders 15,000 yards at a time. Leave NY and you can find $1 fabric everywhere!
Now Joann is raising prices b/c the cost of cotton has skyrocketed...its going to be hard on the consumers.

Re: Did Walmart stop selling fabrics?
All of the Walmarts near me sell fabric, but it's in 2 yard packs and hung on shelf hangers in the sewing machine aisle.
