Did you believe in Santa growing up?

I've been wondering about this. I don't remember ever believing that Santa was REAL, but I knew who he was and what he "does" etc. I just never remember believing that all the gifts came from him - we got gifts from my parents, my aunts/uncles. And I definitely don't ever remember "finding out" he was not real and being heartbroken or upset about it.

So I'm curious, if you celebrate Christmas, did you believe in Santa? Do you remember when you found out he wasn't real?

Re: Did you believe in Santa growing up?

Absolutely. My cousins and my sister and I used to look out the window the night of Christmas Eve, and my sister and I slept under the table in the living room that was set up for guests Christmas Day.Chat Icon Chat Icon

ETA: I don't remember when I figured out he wasn't real- but I don't think I really cared, either..

Yep!!! Chat Icon For some reason as I got older (7+) I was on a crusade to prove he didn't exist. Chat Icon I think I found out around 9. I recovered quickly...it's not like the gifts didn't stop coming when I stopped believing. Chat Icon

Re: Did you believe in Santa growing up?

I learned the truth when I was in Kindergarten.. but I kept up the ruse for my parents because I had it in my head that I'd get more presents if I believed.

My 8 year old has probably known for a few years.. always asking questions and feeling me out. He finally asked straight out this year and begged me to tell him the truth. So he knows who puts presents under the tree and that Santa exists as the spirit of Christmas.

Yes I did. And I remember flipping out that when I was told the real story. I believed for a LONG time. It's quite embarassing. I was soooo upset and angry that my parents lied to me and I was embarassed. My poor dad had a lot of clean up to do Chat Icon

Re: Did you believe in Santa growing up?

No, we were never told that Santa was anything other than just a nice thing to say/think about at Christmas - he was just the decoration, the man in the song, the thing that represents the "decoration/pretty" part of Christmas. Obviously, the true meaning is much more religious..

I knew my gifts came from my parents and that they had to work hard to get them - and that I had to earn them. It was not traumatic at all when I grew up because I never had to learn that this thing I believed in was made up. I remember my friends were DEVASTATED to find out.

Yes, I did believe in Santa. One of my greatest memories as a kid was leaving santa a 5th avenue candy bar cause we didnt have cookies to give him. I was so scared he wasnt going to eat it and couldnt believe it when I woke up and the candy was gone but there was a note on the wrapper saying he loved itChat Icon Chat Icon

ETA: needless to say my mother loved 5th Ave bars, what a concidence.

I believed until about 6 or 7 when i noticed that Santa's note to me looked just like my Dad's writing!

I wasn't too upset, i was more proud of myself for figuring it out. The Santa experience was still fun, even knowing he wasn't real Chat Icon

Re: Did you believe in Santa growing up?

Yes I believed! I think a kid at school ruined it for me, but I wasn't as upset cause I still got presents. I remember sneaking into my mom's room or looking for the hidden presents, so at some point I knew the gifts were just from my parents. And I still knew I had to be good cause it was mom buying the gifts and she could easily take them away. I was much more scared of mom than Santa!

Re: Did you believe in Santa growing up?

I believed until I was 7 or 8, then I kind of figured it out little by little and put the pieces together that he coudln't be real. I wasn't devastated though, although Christmas was way more fun back when I thought Santa was real!

Re: Did you believe in Santa growing up?

I completely believed in Santa.

Found out when I was 6, My 1st grade teacher took great pleasure tooking all of us at the end of the classroom, made us sit by her and told us than our parents had lied to us. That everything we believed in was a lie. Tooth fairy, Santa, Easter bunny.... everything! To this day, I remember the jubilation she had while tellling us.

I still remember her name. MRS. VANDERBERG!!! She was a complete witch. Did not belong teaching 1st grade.

The stories I have with her are amazing... as in the most evil. She hated me! Chat Icon

OMG!!!!!!!!!! THAT IS HORRIBLE!!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I believed in Santa up until about 8 or 9 yrs old. We used to go to my Nani's house in Brooklyn on Christmas Eve and then come home. I would put on my x-mas pajamas and head to bed. Well this particular year we came home, i went and put on my pajamas and my brother (who is 10 yrs older than me) said "c'mon and help us bring the presents down, you know Santa isn't real." Thanks big bro for scarring me for life Chat Icon Chat Icon

Same here.

I knew about Santa but never was told or thought he was real. Ever. I don't feel I missed out on anything.
